Service was great, however the food didn't have much of a thai taste to it. We had the lunch combos which included: (nom-thai) soup, garden salad, one egg roll garlic chicken entree, Penang curry entree, and a bowl of white/brown rice. The garlic chicken wasn't bad, but by no means was is excellent or even thai flavored. The Penang didn't have any thai flavoring either. A bit disappointed.

Oh so delicious. Mint is my go-to joint for takeout. Great food, moderate prices, healthy options (brown rice), and convenience combine to keep me coming back for more. This review is primarily for takeout (I've dined in once). Their Panang curry, with its blend of sweet and savory flavors (pineapple, coconut, peppers, spices...) is like foodie crack. Then again, so is the Tom Kha...I will not waste a drop of that broth. The Hot Basil and Red Curry are not far behind. For dining in, the ambiance is decent, but doesn't really stand out. Service was good, but our pork skewers did come out dry and overcooked. Everything else was good.

Food was delicious. I had the drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp. Their spice levels are a bit higher than I'm used to so I went with a 5 and just added my own chili past as needed. I strongly suggest trying the wanton soup as well. It had so much flavor! The lights behind the bar are really cool. We came in on a Saturday at 4:30 and the place was empty. Which is crazy because the food is delicious.

Saturday night I'm pet sitting for a friend in downtown. She said to order dinner so I thought Thai. Seeing this had good reviews and did delivery, I ordered the E-San Classic which included papaya salad (medium-hot spicy level 7-8), chicken and sticky rice. Also bought Thai tea w/ boba. My friend, seeing that, told me to order the same thing but make her papaya salad just medium level at 4-5. The order came in about an hour but our boxes wasn't marked for which was medium-hot spicy and which was just medium. I open to look and they looked the same. Me, being part Thai, I would be able to tell it a part. I tasted both, and both had NO spice level to me. But to my friend, they were medium. The Thai tea had no flavor. The boba was still a little hard. Sigh...I felt bad because my friend paid for it and tipped too.

Nice, helpful service and great food. Nice interior. I had vegetable and brown rice dish with vegan version of duck. They give you choice of white or brown, without charging you extra for brown. Do not be fooled by small front of restaurant, because it is a large restaurant. it even has a really nice lounge/restroom area, with extra seats.

$7 dollar lunch special is a damn good deal. Soup, salad, spring roll, and your main dish. I got the yellow curry, mild because I was told the this particular cook was heavy on the spice. Might want to ask your server who is cooking that day as you might think you can handle it and end up having a bad time. I went early in the afternoon on a Saturday and there was next to no one there, so service was prompt and everything tasted great. The mild was not terribly spicy, next time I will try the hot for sure.

I always like to root for the underdog. Mint definitely is not as popular as nearby places like the bustling Lotus Thai in East Village, and it falls short of the exquisite experience at Rama, which was ranked by Zagat as one of the Top 100 restaurants in the country and consistently ranks high in San Diego Magazine's annual best restaurants issue. Regardless I have always insisted that people give Mint a chance because the food is good enough to satisfy your Thai craving, prices are reasonable, it's next to Horton Plaza so you can park there with mall validation, and (I thought) you could get in and out pretty quickly because it's never busy. But there is a reason this place is almost always empty, as I realized last night on my latest visit: incredibly slow service and sub-par, dry food. When my dining companion and I were seated around 8pm on a Thursday, there were just one or two other tables with people. We got a booth, and then what followed was the longest, slowest dinner I could imagine. It didn't help that my companion and I didn't have a lot to say to each other that night, and we were there for over an hour. It seemed there was only one(?) server that night but there was no one else in the restaurant so I can't imagine the kitchen being overwhelmed. By the time she came over to take our drink orders, we had been waiting so long we just wanted to order everything -- apps, drinks, entrees. Food came up slowly. Our first item was the pork skewers which we were very dry. By the time the server came by to ask how we liked them, we said they were too dry and she apologized which was nice. The whole time we ate them, we talked about how good they had been at Phuong Trang a few weeks ago when we dined there. Kind of sad to be reminiscing about better dinners of the past as you're eating a lackluster one. From there, it took even longer to receive our entrees -- pad thai with chicken and drunken noodles with beef. I had selected beef as it was recommended by the server, but the meat was tough and dry. The drunken noodles were on the oily side, and I mostly tasted the red and green peppers. It is a LOT better at Rama which instead has dimensions of flavors. Maybe this was my fault for ordering it mild as this is usually a spicy dish. I tasted my companion's pad thai, my favorite dish at Mint, and it was definitely up to snuff. Perhaps I would only stick to that dish in the future, as I still like how it's the sauciest pad thai i've had in San Diego. Although she was very sweet and had a pleasant and helpful attitude, our server was hardly ever around, so we were over halfway done eating our entrees before we could ask her for the spice tray, which definitely should have been brought out at the start of the meal. The good thing is that on Thursday nights it's Happy Hour all night, so you can get $3 beers and most of the appetizers (marked with a smiley face on the menu) are HALF off! But I would rather go somewhere else where the meat isn't dried out and doesn't have one of the slowest service experiences in town.

I've never actually eaten at Mint Thai. We always get delivery (one of the main reasons we get Mint). Their Tom Kha soup is delicious....some of the best I have had. The drunken noodles and chicken pad Thai are also very good. Their spicy levels are perfect. I always get a level 5 and it's just right. Prices for the noodle dishes range from $10.95-$15.95 depending on the meat you choose. I have to admit this is a little pricey but again I realize I am paying for the convenience of having my food delivered to my doorstep. The soups range from $5-$15 depending on size and meat. Overall very tasty food and quick delivery service.

I'd recommend the Mint Downtown Thai and give it high marks because the food is good quality and the prices are very affordable for the downtown Gaslamp district/area. You can get out with a full belly on their lunch special which can cost around $10 after tax/tip, no drink (have ice water, it's healthier and free!) The service is friendly, 'tho not all together proactive nor attentive at all times, maybe due to the laws of supply (waiters) and demand (customers), where they may be overworked in the amount of tables to be served. It's good food, not uniquely great, nor remarkable in any way that makes it rise above other Thai restaurants, but feels consistent in quality. I had the Pad See Ew, which is always one of my favorite dishes, it's like a sweeter version of the Cantonese Chinese "Chow Fun" dish, but add some broccoli. The soup that comes with the lunch special is very flavorful and a nice way to start the meal. The parking... well.. it is the Gaslamp, so depending on when you go and your willingness to walk coupled by parking karma and knowledge of the area... it's not that difficult.

Quality Thai place that also delivers. I decided to have my meal of the yellow curry (chicken) spicy with the garlic edamame and spring rolls delivered. All were at my door in approximately 30 minutes. I would recommend each item.

Come here for lunch at least 2 times a week. They have the best specials in all of downtown for lunch and is true Thai food. I have in laws that live in Thailand and even said most authentic place they've seen in the states. Definitely recommend

Not sure what was wrong with the service but it was really bad. I went here during Comic Con weekend and they didn't seem prepared at all for the influx of customers. It took us around 10 minutes of waiting for the hostess to even acknowledge we were there. She sat us almost immediately but we had to wait again for our waitress to get to the table. We ordered mussels and our drinks, while my girlfriend still decided what to eat. The mussels came out around 15 minutes later, we ate them, finished our drinks, waited around longer. Our waitress finally showed up to ask us what we wanted to order, oh hell no. We said we were done and asked for the bill. Another long wait just to pay our bill. I don't really remember how long we were there for, but a group that had just been seated before us had barely gotten their drinks and still had their menus waiting to order as we were leaving. I wish I could give them zero stars but honestly, those mussels were so dang delicious (and I hate mussels and clams) that I almost thought about cancelling the lease on my apartment and moving into the restaurant so that I could eat Dinner sometime in the future whenever my meal would arrive. We'll probably try going back on a Tuesday at 2 pm or whenever no one is eating to see if we can get some service in there. Hopefully I can update with a better review.

For delivery to the Horton Grand, on a night when walking even that far was too far, this hit the mark perfectly for the BF! He has high standards for Thai food, so I tried to reign in his expectations. He's not disappointed. I ordered online via the Yelp feature (first time doing so). They delivered, with a friendly smile, easily 25 minutes ahead of their estimated time. I think overall it took about 70 minutes or so total time start to finish, but not a problem, as we expected it. I believe the delivery minimum was $25 and a charge of $2.95. Worth it when you aren't up to walking and the hotels kitchen is closed or doesn't have what you want. Ordered the BBQ chicken (extra spicy), he said not spicy enough, but very tasty. It came with an order of plain white rice. Also got the House Special fried rice, which he declared 'effing great'.

I decided to try Mint for the first time this Friday during their lunch hour, and unfortunately I was not impressed. We had two items from their lunch menu and the best adjective to describe their food is mediocre. The soup was a little questionable as it seemed to have been left over soup just boiled over and served the next day and the hot sauce tray smelled and tasted off. They also have some work to do on their maintenance since there was a clearly evident water leak coming from their roof and dropping down on their bar area! I'm pretty sure if you'd been sitting in the area you'd get a nice splash. The customer service wasn't bad at all but it was not enough to compensate for the lack of quality in their food. Unfortunately, this is the first and last time I'll be eating there.

I love vapure. The flavor of the week deals are tremendous. This is the only place I go for my e-liquids. I highly recommend them to anyone that vapes. Jayden offers great customer service and is very educated in the products.

Awful service. Only three tables of patrons and my server hasn't even said hello in thirty minutes. The hostess brought me water after twenty minutes, decrying that she isn't my server. The employee structure and communication could use some definite help, but the food is delicious

Came here in a Saturday for lunch. The vibe is great, the place is clean and the food is good. It's low-dimmed and classy. We were the only ones there so of course the food was prompt and our server was on it. The only weird thing is the jazz music in the background, doesn't really go with the food but I like Jazz so it was all good. Highly recommend this place.

Ordered delivery, mild on everything. Food came back as spicy, burned my mouth. Called back and just said their cooks prepare them all differently. Didn't offer to replace, just said sorry and oh well. I got food I couldn't eat.

We supported Restaurant Week today at Mint Thai in downtown. They have the best lunch deal where you get lunch for two for only $10. My girlfriend and I really like this place and had a fun time. The only issue which knocked them down two stars is that their Pad-Thai is not good. We came with our two knucklehead dogs and sat outside on their patio. Even though the patio consists of just two tables, it was fun because there is a lot of foot traffic going by, which makes for some good people watching. The servers were very nice and cheerful and got our food out in a timely matter. We got the pad Thai and pad see ew, along with our Thai iced teas. Our Thai iced teas were delicious and were a good size. I hate when Thai restaurants scam on you and bring out your Thai iced teas in a fancy glass that doesn't hold more than 5 sips. These were decent size glasses that took me the whole meal to finish. Our meals were well-proportioned and they came with a fried spring roll and a peanut dressing salad. My girlfriend's pad see ew was pretty good. It is very rare my string bean girlfriend eats her entire meal, but I will be damned that she ate every last bite. I, on the other hand, cannot say the same. I got the shrimp Pad Thai. The shrimp was good, but the Pad Thai sucked. The chef really needs to redo his recipe and/or teach his cooks a different way to cook it. The sauce was way overpowering and the noodles were not good quality. With there being a lot of competition around the downtown area, you better have a good Pad Thai dish or you're going to lose business. At least my dogs got to enjoy the noodles because I got sick of eating it halfway through. If management reads this please let me know if you change up your Pad Thai recipe because I want to come back and dine here again, but won't if I receive the same quality of dish as I did today. All in all if you want a good Thai meal that wont break your wallet then you will enjoy this place. Just don't order the Pad Thai.

I must admit that I was quite wary of Mint after reading the less-than-positive reviews on Yelp. In spite of that, my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try during Restaurant Week. Mint offered a two for $10 lunch special and that was a deal that we figured was worth a chance. We called ahead and confirmed that dogs would be allowed on their patio. The outdoor area is small with just enough room for two tables near the sidewalk. It was perfect for us and our pups! I ordered the chicken pad see ew and I have zero complaints about it. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly! The lunch special also came with a bowl of soup, side salad and a fried spring roll. I was disappointed in the peanut dressing as I'm not a fan of peanuts and am used to a ginger dressing, which looks similar. My first thought was what if someone had a peanut allergy and didn't know. That could be bad. My boyfriend was less happy with his pad thai but I'll let him write his own review. The Thai teas were delicious though!

It's was really good! Knew nothing about it but was very much pleased!! I got the Peanut Noodles (14$) and my partner got (pad Thai)(7$) (off the lunch special menu) being vegetarians we subbed our meat for tofu but it was still great! I got less peanut noodles than the 7$ pad Thai which i was confused by but never the less good!! Make sure you get there for lunch or else it will be pretty pricey! :/ and if you get spring rolls get them FRESH!! Instead of fried! Much much more tasty!! :) hope you enjoy!!!

don't know how they do it but I never get anything but the best food and service here. Most places put too much salt in their food but this place has the right amount. I had the the pad thai with duck and my with wife had the pad thai shrimp.

  • Jatun H.

The place was very empty and dark. Our server was nice and greeter us in a timely manner. We got there right when they opened so I think he needed more time to finish up. Our food came out pretty fast and was okay as far as taste. I had to add some spices to my food to get a better flavor. The Drunken chicken was good but the salad was dry and just lettuce and a small amount of dressing. Overall it was decent and I would probably come back if I lived in the area.

First off, let me start by saying that I love this restaurant. I have eaten here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. It is definitely a hidden gem of Downtown SD restaurants. There's never a crowd so your server is always dedicated to your party and very attentive! Meals are always delivered quickly also! Regarding the ambiance, Mint has a beautiful interior design plan as well as excellent music playing in the background. Overall, Mint is on of the better Thai restaurants I've been to!

  • K N.

Honestly, I love the Pad see ew. I love the spice (get it thai hot, it'll burn your face off and it's amazing). The food is always good, I haven't had a bad experience yet. The main problem here is the service. Very unfriendly, unknowledgeable, and slow. I'd rather take my money to a mom and pop shop where they're excited to have you. Customer service is what keeps your customers coming back, I'd recommend to the owners to have better hostesses and waitresses.

  • Nick M.

Come here for the lunch specials, you will thank me. The lunch specials have almost the same portion as the diner plates but come with a salad, soup, and a salad for less money! They offer 5 different types of curry and all of their other Tai dishes are also on the lunch menu. There is sidewalk seating for those people watching connoisseurs among us, and the interior is great for lunch with friends or a diner date. I my favorites are the green and red curry, the pad thai, and the drunken noodles, all of which can be made to your spice level and with the meat, seafood, or vegetables 9th your choice. My favorite moderately priced Thai restaurant in Downtown San Diego.

The food is delicious the service is okay. Was greeted by the guy when I walked in, pretty much ignored by what ended up being my server. It did take my friend and I a minute to realize it was self seating but the ladies just continued talking, it felt a little odd for a restaurant. Finally got a menus, ordered the pad thai and my friend got the pineapple shrimp- BOTH TASTED AMAZING, definitely recommend. On the other side of that server didn't check on us once after she took our order. It was around lunch time and I watched as the restaurant start to fill up. This poor guy was running around taking care of every table. Seemed like the manager was on vacation because the girls continued just standing around talking. I wish I would caught his name but he had a beard and a bun. Kudos to him for completely taking control. Overall I would come back for the food but I'd probably just get take out.

HH 3pm - 7pm Monday - Friday: Half off appetizers- Look for the HAPPY FACE =) Located on 4th Avenue in Downtown Gaslamp right outside of Horton Plaza. Large dinning room with a nice ambiance. Service was good. Food: Chicken Panang - Stir fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, egg, tofu and green onions topped with crushed peanuts Pad See Iew - Flat noodles stir fried with Chinese broccoli, garlic, carrots, broccoli and egg in a black sweet sauce Pad Thai -Stir fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, egg, tofu and green onions topped with crushed peanuts Appetizers: Thai Dumplings, Pork Skewers, Fried Spring Rolls and Calamari Tempura All the above were alright and nothing to really rant and rave about. Don't get me wrong it's not bad either. My favorite dish there is the Thai Dumplings. YUMMY. Happy Hour is good and economical so I'll be sure to return.

Service was good and menu had lots of options. Unfortunately I ordered a steak and it was over cooked. I didn't have time to send it back. If you want steak get a stir fry option as that appeared to come out OK.

I always order Tom Yum soup whenever I go to a Thai restaurant and Mint Thai's is quite delicious. I give them 3 stars for their lack of customer service. Everytime I come here, there's hardly any customers dining yet the service is super slow. The employees seem to always be hiding in the back until someone walks in. The restaurant is so dark that sometimes I'm not sure if they even see me standing there waiting to be seated.

My coworker and I shared the vegetarian tom kha soup, which was slightly spicy with coconut milk. We both liked it. My panang salmon was a disappointment though. Either salmon doesn't go well with the peanut based slightly spicy sauce, or their salmon was not very fresh. It tasted very fishy and was just not a very tasty dish. Another coworker thought his chicken in his chicken curry dish was raw inside. The staff did not come back to check on us after delivering our dishes. We could have sent back the chicken dish but decided not to bother. The other appetizers dish (clear veggie rolls, chicken satay and tofu satay) were o.k. I don't think I will be going back.

I've never had a drunken noodles that I haven't liked til today. I had lunch here before about a year ago and like it, but the lunch special with chicken drunken noodles was spicy without having much taste- just a red ambiguous sauce. Same for the soup. That said the service was great and it was inexpensive at $8.50 for soup cup of salad and meal

I came here during Restaurant Week for lunch with my friend. They had a two person lunch deal. For $15 we got to pick two entrees and a drink. The lunch came with soup, salad, your choice of brown or white rice along with your entree. I picked red curry with chicken and my friend had panang with chicken. We loved it all and didn't walk out with any leftovers. It was a big meal too for a lunch portion. I will definitely be back. And the service was great, everyone was really nice.

This is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. Living just down the street, I come here at least once a week. It is rare to find a restaurant with such a conistently positive dining experience. Attentive staff, great atmosphere, delicious food. If you're looking for great Thai in Gaslamp, make sure you go to Mint

Considering all of the reviews I read before eating at this restaurant, I was still very disappointed in the food. The mediocrity of the food overshadowed the service. I ordered the Thai chicken special ($15). The side salad was drenched in fish sauce, the white rice was chewy (half dried and reheated) and there was a very small chicken thigh butterflied open. Although the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned I was disappointed by the small portion and wondering if the rest of chicken was coming later... For $15 I expected more. My husband ordered the duck- $18. It was overcooked and tough to cut. I hate judging a restaurant as a whole from 1 meal , but I probably would not return if I ordered anything aside from the drunken noodles as mentioned in other local reviews.

Great yellow curry. I would recommend takeout. You get a lot of food, it usually lasts me 2-3 meals. I think the food is great.

  • Kathleen P.

The food is standard good food. We had drunken noodles, panang curry, and pad Thai and they were all pretty good and the portions were huge. The panang curry was tasty and creamy, the pad Thai was very flavorful, and the drunken noodles were like a good comfort food dish. There was a 2 dinners for $25 deal which includes 2 entrees and a starter - the fried spring rolls were good, and so was the thai iced tea. I don't really understand why this place has such bad reviews. I think the food and service are both fine and the price is really great compared to a lot of places especially in gaslamp. Plus it's right next to Horton Plaza so it's so easy to get parking. I think the only area it's lacking in would be ambiance.

Thai is a tricky beast to master... Or maybe, i'm just picky. However, Mint has managed to take a very admirable approach. The food was really delicious and I enjoyed all the potential options to choose from. My friends and I are an adventurous bunch and ordered a few different things on the menu. I ordered the chicken pad thai. It was good. But that's it. I wasn't wowed by any means. The thing that kind of threw me off was the proportions. (not as a whole, but within the dish itself.) The "ratio" of pad thai noodles to chicken and sprouts was just unfavorable. While I enjoyed the taste, I still question why it was so sweet versus the typical and traditional savory thai I am used to. We also ordered something called "triangles" (basically a fried wonton filled with imitation crab meat and cream cheese). It was again, just good. To clarify, I am not disappointed in this experience at Mint, I am just not impressed. However, since the food was good overall, I am willing to go back and give it another chance.

This place is a hole in the wall but clean and modernly furnished. They put some effort into making the place look nice and give it a nice atmosphere. I usually have the Tom Kha soup as well as the red curry. Both dishes are great, fresh and crispy every time. Inexpensive and good if you are looking for a quick week night dinner.

Came here to lunch with a friend for the first time, and almost immediately left because of how rude our server, Stephanie, was. She came by and took our drink orders like it was a burden, got it wrong, and then brought the correct drink by literally slamming it on the table and walking away without saying anything. My friend talked me out of calling her out, so we ordered some food and decided to just eat and leave quickly. The tom kha was delicious, a few other girls stopped by the table and were refreshingly nice and friendly... After we got our food Stephanie seemed to be in a better mood and ended up being much nicer and even pretty likeable. Maybe she just had a bad morning. The green curry was fantastic and perfectly portioned, and we ended up enjoying the experience. We will both be back :)

This is definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants in San Diego. I was staying at the Westin on Broadway and didn't get in until 8:30 last night. I was able to call in an order for delivery before they closed at 9:00. I ordered the drunken noodle with chicken and an app of chicken satay. They were both extremely good; as good as I remember from last October when dining there last. I like how their drunken noodle doesn't have thick chunky onions. Every time I go to San Diego for business, I always make sure I either eat at the restaurant or order for delivery at least once.

So far this is the best of the four Thai places I have tried downtown. I loved the yellow curry, pad Thai, and spring rolls. Tom kah soup was ok but not my favorite. Their side sauces are very tasty! Friendly staff! They forgot one item in my bag but we're extremely apologetic and took care of it.

I work in the hospitality industry so I know what the industry is like and support other people that do this type of work but I am so angry at how they cooked my food when I clearly specified medium well. I ordered delivery and when I got my food the meat was extremely pink and bloody and the vegetables were frozen from a packet and then defrosted. so gross. Service and quality goes a long way. I will be telling everyone not to go to this restaurant now because they obviously don't know how to cook. Not impressed.

I came here for lunch today. I had the drunken noodles with beef lunch special. I was pleasantly surprised- great portion size, very tasty salad and soup that comes with too. My friends had the curry lunch special and that looked very tasty too. My lunch was $9 plus tax and tip. Theirs was $7. That's cheaper than Rubio's.

Wasn't horrible, wasn't great either. Ordered the house fried rice because I wanted pineapple. My pineapple was almost clear in color and had no flavor! Ugh!! That was the whole point. I also got pad see ew, which had a lot of sauce but it was salty. I like salt so for me to think it's salty... Portions were a bit on the smaller side for the price, but I guess I'm paying for location.

I guess you pay for what you get. Felt like having Thai food and didn't want to spend a ton of money. I was in DT for Jury Duty, so figured might as well try out their Restaurant Week menu. It was only $10 and since I was there myself, I had to order two entrees. Both failed to impress me. It's mediocre food, at best. I ordered the pad thai noodles and the panang curry. The pad thai noodles, in my opinion, was overcooked and the sauce was too sweet. The panang curry was too thick and tasted bland. Usually, I really like panang curry, like from SpicesThai Cafe, but this curry did not hit the spot. I barely ate that, instead filling up on the mini egg roll and salad that comes with the lunch special. It was okay for the price. $5 an entree & I got to take the pad thai noodle for the hubby for dinner. Service was okay, kind of slow. There weren't really a lot of people there for lunch considering it was Restuarant Week. The ambiance/decor of the place was nice.

Great happy hour...low prices for food, and it's very tasty. Apparently they do most of their business during lunchtime, but after 5 PM, we walk in with no wait every time. All food I have had here was good, with the exception of the fried rice which used noticeably too much oil.

I can't speak to the restaurant experience of this place, but I can speak to the level of customer service. We ordered from here recently through GrubHub. We ordered two vegetarian main dishes and an appetizer with crab meat, as we are both pescatarians. The restaurant called us to advise us that the appetizer we ordered had crab meat in it. She just wanted to make sure because she noticed both entrees were vegetarian. I advised that it would be okay, and that I really appreciated her phone call. That my people, is an outstanding display of customer service. She paid attention, she noticed something amiss, and she did something about it. She didn't assume the scenario was correct and she wanted to make sure that we as the customer were completely informed in what was going on. Bravo. It's a shame we just moved out of San Diego and a shame I didn't try Mint before!!!

Please do not waste your money. There are plenty of other restaurants close by that'll be worth your attention. This restaurant is not counting on repeat business. For lunch I spent $ 9.67 and received a TV dinner, size and taste plate.

Went on a Friday night for dinner. the location is perfect, they have ample seating. They had a dinner for 2 deal which was sweet. The appetizers and entree were portioned just right and the food was great. There were only a few other people in the restaurant, wonder why. .. The server / Bartender was extremely professional and courteous. I will go again!

I had a friend visiting from the Orange County so we picked this place because it was vegan friendly. My friend was less than impressed by the quality of their dish. Server lack of recommendation choices. We order garlic edemame as an appetizer it seemed a bit uncooked. The weither didn't pick up out our appetizer plates till we were done with our entrees. Food was also a bit overpriced.

Their food may be ok (IDK) but was so turned off by the hostess/greeter that we didn't stay to find out. Came to try it for restaurant week but the hostess was so ambivalent and unfriendly we went elsewhere and it was fabulous! There are too many good choices downtown-we will go where staff welcome us!

This review is for you, Kayla. I know you're totally stalking me and reading this review!! lol Three of us came here for lunch today thinking we were in time for the lunch specials. The sign isn't clear since "lunch special" and "happy hour" are on the same board with the times "3-7". Let me clarify! Lunch specials end at 3 and that's when HH starts. We were hungry.. we were seated.. so we stayed. Okay okay.. we stayed for the HH apps, too. All the apps except the shrimp, wings, and sampler are included in the HH specials. Here's the breakdown: Penang Curry (beef): Yum! This was a great choice. I liked the thickness of the curry and flavor was spot on. Highly recommended! Green Curry: I didn't try this one since I'm not a fan of green curry. It looked very watery and more like a broth/soup. Pad Thai (chicken): I tried a bite and I liked it! They used the noodles I like which are thinner and don't feel/taste like rubber. This reminds me of the version at Jasmine Thai back in SJ. It's on the sweeter side (which is my preference). Triangles: Yes... they effing named an appetizer after their shape. Haha. They should get get 5 stars for that! Unfortunately, they were a huuuuge disappointment. The cream cheese inside had no flavor. I couldn't taste the crab... and the sauce didn't help at all. Stay away!! Thai Dumplings: They mean gyoza. They were crispy and hot and freshly fried. Yummm! Positives -The restaurant has a nice ambiance. It's definitely not a hole in the wall. It would be a great place for a date! - The portions are quite large Negatives - Hot is not HOT! Go for the spiciest level if you like spicy. - While the portions overall are on the larger side for a Thai restaurant, they don't put much meat in the curries. Stick with the noodles if you want to get full - I'm Asian, I need more than one scoop of rice with my entree Overall, I enjoyed lunch here but it wasn't the best I've ever had.

Mint is a favorite of ours when we are in town, escaping the Phoenix heat. Their happy hour menu is awesome! Calamari and satay at half price - and it's soooo delish. Their pad thai and other options have always been great. Love it.

I recently (this morning) had a sudden craving for Pad Thai. I had never been to Mint Downtown Thai, but read marvelous things about their traditional signature dish from various sites on the interwebs. With dangerously high expectations, I came here for lunch this afternoon. The Short Description: Excellent service. Below-Average Food. The Long Description: I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, a featured lunch special. To sum up, the noodles were spicy but flavorless. The chicken tasted bland and rubbery. Overall, I found the dish so unsettling (and disheartening) that I did not finish it (and I'm not one to shy away from cleaning my plate). The main dish also came with a bowl of Tom Kah Soup (tangy but disappointingly lukewarm) and a small side salad (drenched in peanut sauce and basically inedible). I left my fried spring roll untouched. I am sorry to say everything about the meal screamed over-sauced, over-cooked and over-hyped. The hostess and sever were very attentive and friendly. Despite this, I most likely will not be returning.

I am shocked at the other reviews of 1 or 2 stars! Did they eat at the same restaurant as me?? My boyfriend and I frequent this restaurant at least 2 times a month. Let me break down my rating of 5 stars for you to digest. 1 star is given for location...it is in the heart of downtown, so when you want to go out, this is the perfect place to go downtown and avoid the inflated prices for so-so food. 1 star is given for the price to value ratio. Most all entrees are between 8 and 14 dollars, and the portions are big..you don't leave hungry if you just order 1 entree. 1 star is given for quality of the food: I have never had anything bad here, in fact, everything has been awesome! I usually order the Spicy Basil dish, and it is delicious!!! I like the mixed meat or chicken the best, but the seasoning is perfecto! My boyfriend orders the eggplant one, and he swears by it!! 1 star is given for service. They are prompt, courteous, and fast. Can't beat that! 1 star is given for atmosphere...not only is the food fantastic, the service great, the location awesome, and the price ridiculously cheap, but the place is actually quite swanky. A giant bonus. So, ignore those other reviews, those people are nuts. This is the best Thai downtown for the price and location. Period.

After yelp elite event, we came here! We chose MInt Thai because we were too lazy to walk and it was really cold outside! Also, the price was not too bad! In the beginning, the service was not really good! The lady who took us to our table was not really nice! But after that, all the waitress and waiter were very friendly. Foodwise.... pretty good!

The staff was very friendly, however this place was just straight up dead. I really question if this is real thai, cause I love me some thai and this was not hitting the spot for me. The food was good, just not authentic. For being the only people in the restaurant it did take an extremely long time to bring out our food.

Would have given this place a 4 if it wasn't for the not so great service I received today at lunch time. This was the first time I had ever been here and the food was great, service not so great. There is a seat yourself sign and my friend and I sat outside and it took the waitress 5 + minutes to greet us when it was not that busy. Along with that after we had our meals, we had to go track down the waitress to get our check. And to top it all off after my friend finished her meal she noticed there was a short black hair in it (both of us have light colored hair). I think it's safe to say I will not be frequenting this place. Too bad because the food is good.

I flew all the way down to SD to spend valentines day with my lady and was excited for the lovely night I had planned. After a lackluster experience at a crappy cupcakery, I was hopeful for a better dinner at Mint Thai restaurant downtown. We came for their "special" valentines day menu which offered one appetizer, two entrees, and one dessert to share for $40. We went for the spring rolls, which were ok, but kind of dry and not fresh at all. The peanut sauce was ok though. For our entrees, we shared the salmon curry and the shrimp with asparagus. They dumped the brown rice on the plates so it was a little more complicated to "share" then I'm used to. The flavors were ok though but the salmon was a bit overcooked and there were tough stalky bits o asparagus that needed to be spat out. At $18 on the regular menu, I wouldn't order the salmon again though. We shared the sweet sticky rice with custard for dessert, which was the best part of the meal, though it doesn't really say much. Overall, I was very disappointed with the food. As it turns out, the "special" menu is one big overpriced sham. In fact, ordering the same dishes from the regular menu would have been much, much cheaper (by about 20%!). The service was definitely the worst part of the experience and it was ssssllllloooooowwwwww. The dining room was definitely not busy but dishes took forever to arrive and the hostesses and waitresses were clueless and clucking away. What the hell was this crap? Next time, I'm just gonna cook at home. Even the dog-"friendly" patio outside isn't worth coming back for because by the time I get my people food, the poor dog would have starved by then. Food: 5/10 Service: 1/10 Price: $$ Atmosphere: 6/10

Food: Pretty good. Service : Not so good. Bottom line: If you don't live near downtown, don't bother. Pretty harsh...but the place was not busy and our server actually "pffsgghhhhed" at us for asking for waters and/or tea. We had to ask the server at least 3 times for something. And when she brought it, it was wrong??!!! So weird. Yeah...so.. if you don't really like to drive and don't like to search/ pay for parking..don't bother...the food aint all that great to be able to forget about the alien snooty server.

I ordered for delivery. The restaurant forgot some of my order. I call restaurant back asking where the rest of my food was. The hostess says, oh yea its right here, no apologies or anything. I say forget it just credit my card back for the amount. She doesn't do it right, three days later. I get ahold of a manager, he apologizes finally and says he'll credit my account. It took over a week to get this sorted out.

Disappointing. The decor is very modern and nice, but its a place that serves Thai food without a picture of the prince. Its not Thai owned. I stopped for the lunch special and had spicy basil with chicken. The chicken was chipped white meat that looked like broken tofu. The meal left a lingering msg taste in my mouth that I had to work to remove. Look elsewhere for your Thai experience. There are good restaurants near by

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this gem while shopping downtown recently. I was looking for something different, and delicious. I got both! First, the restaurant is impeccably clean (including the rest rooms). The ambiance was nice and relaxing. Second, we were greeted by a bubbly server who explained the specials and that it was Happy Hour (half off appetizers!). The service was fast, and efficient. I never once wondered where our waitress had disappeared to. Third, the food was delicious, and came out in a timely manner. I am very pleased with my decision to try something new, and I will definitely be a returning customer! I recommend this place if you are looking for some Thai food in a relaxing and sanitary place in downtown!

Food is pretty good. Found myself almost addicted! Noodle dishes are a little better than the curries. Star rewards program is pretty cool, gives returning customers a fun incentive! Lunch special is awesome - a lot food for the money! Takeout does take a while though, so order ahead of time!

I do enjoy this place. They have a great lunch special, they deliver, it's fast... it's cheap. So it's not the greatest thai in the world but... I dunno. I ain't never been to no Thailand before. It tastes tasty to me :D I always get the curry cause I love me some curry but my girlfriend got the pad see ewwww (lol) w/ tofu and that was also surprisingly tasty.

Great staff, wonderful food. The Tom Kha soup was a delight with every taste. Then I had the Hot Basil, it was full of veggies and a nice egg on top for presentation. I finished my meal with a nice tall glass of the coconut ice cream. This place also has time to time a great Groupon deal.

This is a favorite spot of ours to stop at after a day at the zoo. The service is always solid and the servers are very helpful. My personal favorites are the garlic pork appetizer and the panang duck curry. The flavors just explode in your mouth. I'm no expert in Thai food, so I don't know how authentic it is, but I know it's delicious! And, as an added bonus, very affordable. What's not to like?

When I first ordered I didn't realize how pricey it was. It kind of made me upset until I tasted the food. AMAZING. Everything was very good, very full of flavor. The deliverer was super fast my food was still hot when I got it.

  • Emily R.

Welp, I placed an order for delivery and it took over an hour... then I get a call from the delivery guy saying he couldn't find my house. I had to walk up the street and meet him to get my food. That's a first! Maybe they can redeem themselves with their food!? House fried rice... the only thing I can say about this is at least it was hot. I also got the appetizer sampler... complete bullsh*t. The tempura was a joke, the egg rolls were mushy, there was some kind of spring roll... I dunno, it tasted like I was eating cold packing paper. The chicken satay was OK but I wouldn't be surprised if this meal doesn't make me go #1 out ma'butt. Will I ever have Mint Downtown Thai again? F#ck NO! Would I reccommend this place? Maybe if I get some sorta head trama and forget this horrid experience.

I enjoyed my lunch at Mint Downtown Thai. I had the $7 lunch deal: drunken noodles with tofu. It came with soup (not vegetarian - they should have a vegetarian option), house salad, and a veggie egg roll. The portion was perfect for lunch, and the drunken noodles were some of the better that I've had. The service was a little lacking, though. My table had to ask several times for hot sauce. Overall, for the price, it's a great option for lunch downtown.

Got to try 5 different things because it was Restaurant week. EVERY SINGLE DISH WAS MAGNIFICENT! I seriously taste their Panang Curry and Drunken Noodles in my sleep. And their Tom Kha Gai?! Nothing like a bowl of spicy sour Thai soup to warm you and your taste buds up. The dishes do look small, but we were so full we had to take some of our food to go. And DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE MANGO STICKY RICE!!! Heavenly. Omg. The server packed my to-go weirdly... She put the curry on the bottom and the rice all on the top... when I got home it was all soggy, thus turning the rest of my Panang Curry into Panang Porridge :(

Here on a Monday for happy hour. Half off most of the starters so I ordered the calamari and fresh spring rolls. Also ordered shrimp drunken noodles. Starters came out fairly quickly, nice presentation also. The calamari was lightly fried which I loved. An the spring roll was very fresh tasting. I thought the quality of ingredients were good. Glad I ordered two starters because I was hungry and the drunken noodles took a long time (wonder if they messed it up and had to remake it? That's how long it felt). The noodles weren't bad, but as other yelpers have mentioned they did not taste like authentic Thai food. Definitely had a different taste than I'm used to. Portion size was good though! Server was nice (I'm the only patron in here btw), but didn't make much eye contact as I was ordering and she kept running her fingers through her hair, maybe she was just shy idk... I would definitely return though.

This review applies to the quality of their food and their delivery service. I've never been to their actual restaurant. That said, I like Thai food and order from them quite regularly because the food is decent (i.e. not bad, not great), but their delivery is getting worse. There have been more than a handful of instances when they forgot an item or gave me the wrong item. If they didn't mess up often, I would give them three stars. Unfortunately, their delivery service isn't always consistent and you can go hungry waiting for them to redeliver your food (about an hour--it takes them a while to deliver).

Ordered TO GO... Was fresh, hot and tasty.... the price was a bit high for what it was. The Tom Yum Soup was a sorry excuse, but the drunken noodle redeemed it....hence 3 stars.

This used to be my favorite thai restaurant. Food is always delicious. I always get the drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp with thai tea. Only reason i dont give it 5 stars is because the service is either hit or miss.two of my coworkers also agree the service is not great. Usually have to wait for the waitresses to stop chatting. Or have to sit around for a while before even getting aknowledged. Food is great but time to find a new place! Order carry out instead.

My husband and I gave Mint Thai a try because we received their coupon in the mail. We wanted to have our food delivered (the coupon we received in the mail said "We Deliver"); however, when we called, we were told they do not deliver to our area, even though we only live 5 miles away. We reluctantly drove through downtown San Diego, through Comic Con traffic, and parked at Horton Plaza, the only parking available. The host was very friendly, she sat us right away and gave us our menu. As I looked over the menu, I noticed that the items were very Americanized. I have been to quite a few "authentic" Thai restaurants, and the menu generally looks very different than what I was given at Mint Thai. The coupon I brought was for 1 free dinner entree with purchase of one dinner entree. We ordered 2 of the Hot Basil dinner entrees with Chicken, one order of the Chicken Sate and two drinks. The restaurant was not very busy, maybe 6 couples, and it still took about 25 minutes before our food arrived. Our dinner came before the appetizer and after it was put on our table, the waitress noticed that the wrong meals were brought out. She took the food back (without apologizing or explaining what went wrong) and she left. Our appetizer arrived and 15 minutes later our food arrived, this time the correct meal arrived. I rated this restaurant 2 stars instead of 1 because the food did taste very good. The portions were very very small for the price, the dinner entree was the same size as a lunch entree at most places. It had very little chicken compared to other Thai restaurants I have been to. My husband and I were both were very disappointed, we usually have enough food to take left overs home at other Thai restaurants, but here we didn't. On service alone, I would give 0 stars. The waitress did not keep us informed, she did not check on us and did not offer a refill on our drinks or water. She also was not friendly and looked annoyed when we asked her questions. She had a couple other tables, but should have still made time to check on us. We will not be going back to Mint Thai!

The food was OK. I could eat it and it had some flavor but not much. I feel like the prices were good for what they served, but i'd pay a little extra for some better quality ingredients. Service was prompt and very good. I'd come back again.

Ate here for lunch. Good price on the lunch specials. The food was very mediocre. It just was not real Thai food in my opinion. I ordered some red curry, very hot. I added lots of spice, since it was not hot at all. The salad was too saucy, the spring roll bland, the soup nothing to write home about. I also had the tofu saté. It was ok, but not great. That's how I would sum up this restaurant. "It was ok, but not great".

Great location, near convention center. Friendly, team oriented servers. Good food, drinks, and very reasonable prices. The options I had made for a great, well rounded meal: Spring rolls were decent, but fell apart while eating... the peanut sauce was spicy and smooth, a great topping! Pad Thai was flavorful in every way with lots of tasty meat/vegetarian options. Fresh Mango with sticky rice was wonderfully balanced with sweet coconut, salty peanuts, and tangy mango. Try the Thai tea, it's sweet and great to cut the Thai hot spice!

Visited California for the first time, and made a stop to the Gaslamp Quarter. This restaurant was clean, super friendly, and on the ball (refilled glasses when empty, very attentive). The food was delicious!! Our group tried the following: Appetizer - Crunchy Tofu: Gently fried tofu garnished with fresh basil leaves served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. Entree: Stir fried broccoli with shiitake mushrooms, tofu, and carrots with brown rice. Glass Noodle Soup - Tofu, Napa cabbage, scallions, cilantro & glass noodles in a clear broth. Entree: Stir fried basil leaves with bell peppers, onions, zucchini, carrots, tofu & garlic with a Thai style crispy fried egg on top. Entree - Pad See Lew: Flat noodles stir fried with Chinese broccoli, garlic, carrots, broccoli and egg in a black sweet sauce. Entree - Pad Woon Sen: Glass noodles stir fried with onion, carrots, celery, Napa cabbage and shiitake mushrooms. This place was able to satisfy 3 meat eaters (me being one of them), a vegetarian, and a 3-year old. Enough said.

Just ok. I hesitated after seeing the reviews but had hard time finding other places that had teriyaki chicken and delivered. Ordered delivery and it arrived in time stated - 1.5 hours. Very disappointing grilled teriyaki chicken. Charred and burned. Most of it was not edible and chicken had odd texture. The rest of the food was good.

Never again. Panang was greasy and sauce separated. Mango rice also was not edible. Plus deliver service took 2 hours and I only live 2 blocks away. Many other Thai restaurants in neighborhood. Not sure how this one is still around.

Named after a herb commonly used in most thai dishes, The Mint is a little gem in the heart of downtown, feel free to try one of my favorites dishes the garlic and peeper made with shrimp you won't be disappointed or how about their signature dish the famous drunken noodles and for desert mango sweet rice I promise you'll fall in love with their menu just as I did.

I didn't know there was a way to screw up pad thai. I mean, I would even venture to say it's a pretty standard dish for a thai restaurant. (Sarcasm alert.) Mint proved me wrong. Interior decor - great! Service - A-OK. Food - not so much. The tofu pad thai was clumpy and a weird chewy texture. Tofu was completely bland and I didn't even want to finish it. In fact, I didn't finish a large portion of the dish. Nooooo thanks.

Food is decent. The drunken noodles are legit. Level 10 spice is equivalent to other Thai restaurants' Level 5 spice (on a scale of 10) and this isn't bad for me cuz I usually order 5 spice anyway. But damn, I've never had such slow service even when the restaurant is empty! I guess i'm pretty spoiled with being at a restaurant where they give me water before I get my check. Granted this only happened once, their service is pretty slow compared to pretty much any restaurant i've ever been to. Since they're close to work, I go here only because they're the only decent Thai restaurant near work. So I only eat here when I know I don't have to be in a rush to get back to the office. I usually get lunch a similar restaurants in about a half an hour when I eat by myself. At mint, I'm lucky if I get back to work in an hour. The girls that work here are pretty, though. So that's cool.

The spot was amazing in its decor of lavish fabric with reddish burst. The dim spots was subtle that had an amazing ray, very soothing to the eyes. We started it off with an appetizer, the "Triangles"...consisting of an outter fried shell: within the inner, imitation crab and cream cheese. It was slightly cold, didn't feel fresh or new, feels like it's been waiting for someone to claim them; guess we were the suckers. Since we did picked it, we can atleast try to enjoy it.....(when you eat and have to look at each other with the facial expression of "blahhh" then theres something wrong) Here's our choice: Yellow Curry w/ chicken..from one to 10...a 3 (my view) Grilled Chicken..from one to 10...a 3 I'm not going to hate all day, service was wonderful..atmosphere was amazing..but when your hungry after walking miles, you want to relax and chew on some yummy stuff, not leave the joint saying "never again".

I'm a fan! I love Thai food at Mint Thai is one of my go-to Thai restaurants in San Diego. It's a nice, modern restaurant in the heart of downtown. They have a variety of dishes on the menu - if you love noodles or stir fried dishes this place has so much to choose from. Everything was prepared perfectly. Nice atmosphere, tasty food at great prices!

I thought this place was great. Wife and I went here. She ordered Pad Thai and it came out so spice she couldn't eat it. The server kindly replaced it in less that 5 minutes with a much milder dish. Presentation of the food was excellent and the taste was quite good too.

I walk and drive by Mint a few times a week. I have never eaten at the restaurant, however, I have ordered from here several times. The food is great! Always comes fast and exactly how I ordered it. One day, I need to actually eat in the restaurant!

I actually just discovered grubhub.com and Mint delivers through them. I haven't been to the restaurant yet, but the delivery service and the food, I thought, was terrific! Really easy to order, a very reasonable delivery $ minimum and delicious food! I had the tom kha soup, which was very flavorful and satisfying and the green curry, which was a tiny bit different than some other green curries I've had, I can't quite put my finger on it and at first I was a little confused, but it was actually quite fantastic and I loved it! Very flavorful indeed! And it was hot and fresh and I was very pleased with my choice. I know this place has some mediocre reviews, and to be honest I was hesitant to try it because of that, but I was swayed because I didn't want to have to order a $25 minimum for delivery from the other Thai places on grubhub (Mints delivery minimum is $15), but I was actually quite delighted and happy that I picked Mint! I would definitely do it again!

This is a good solid choice for thai downtown. The lunch special is only $7 and includes the typical soup, salad and an egg roll. I got a 10 for hot and it was actually spicy though not a 10 on my scale. They also have a kickass happy hour and a calming dimly lit interior. Service is quick and efficient, not overly friendly. The waitresses won't waste their time introducing themselves,so you can get in and out fast. Slightly better than the other lunch thai places, including Amarin.

It's important to watch the eyes. When we arrived at Mint Thai I noticed several groups of diners looking at us with what appeared to be desperation in their eyes. I chalked this up to an overactive imagination at the time. What follows is the sequence of events that evening. 1. We were seated quickly, and a friendly young woman took our order. 2. Twenty five minutes later we wondered if we'd been forgotten. We flagged down a waitress with difficulty and managed to obtain some water for our table. 3. At the forty minute mark our waitress returned and asked us for our order a second time. 4. At fifty five minutes our dinner finally arrived. As hungry as we were, it was barely edible. My meat actually squeaked when I bit into it. 5. We asked for our check, and the waitress said she had offered us a discount for our delay. This was a nice gesture. Nothing more than a gesture actually, as the bill was full price. Before we left, we tried to signal an incoming couple to flee - hoping that the desperation would show in our eyes. They stayed. The cycle continues.

Tasty plates...... fast service, considering our group walked in fairly close to closing time. Service was friendly and accommodating. Must try Curry....good stuff.

Visited Mint Downtown when on a trip to San Diego. It was very pleasant. There were not a lot of people in the place and the waitress was really nice. She packed our dinner to go as well. She did have a diamond in the middle of her chest but who was looking :).

I have been here close to a dozen of times and lately I am wondering why. Pros: the food is really good and thats why I kept coming back. *Decor is very nice but is just a waste, since no one is ever in there. Cons: Service is embarrassingly horrible and awkward, there are usually no more than 1 -2 other tables there but yet it still takes unusually long amount of time to get the food and or attention. The vibe is awkward and you feel like you are not wanted there. ex/ Last night 2 of us went in for dinner and we could see the bartender mumble from across the room "f@ck." I literally turned around and walked away. I will not support this place any more. Delivery also takes forever, so if you have the patience go for it. but they need to clean house on this sad establishment.

Over an hour later and I'm STILL waiting for my order. I blame myself for forgetting about the terribly long wait time for delivery. This is my second and final time ordering from Mint Thai. They are lucky I'm hung over and am so desperate for food. Uggggghhhh!!!!!!

This is probably the lowest score that I have given a restaurant that I have visited based on a yelp review. My friend and I visited this place last week during the lunch hour on St. Patrick's day and well... let me say this: If I could of given them a 2.5 star for mediocre food I would have, and she felt that that food was ok if she was starving. The good: Lunch prices of $7 not bad considering that the gaslamp district. The waitress and hostess extremely friendly and helpful and the atmosphere...sorta nice Good portion size of food. Great presentation style on all food we saw. All the food had eye appeal. I will post some pictures:) The not so good: The food just tasted so-so. Not awful (we didn't get sick), but for a Thai restaurant it didn't have the flavor that I desire. Heck in fact, my Thai food that I make at home has more flavor. Not to be disrespectful of this place, but I would suggest to others, The Amarin Thai and Taste of Thai over this place in a heartbeat. Oh...I didn't care for their stinky mango rice with peanuts on it as that was a first for me and I would of like to have had more coconut milk on that dish too.

I'm convinced the Gas Lamp district is synonymous with mediocrity. Businesses there tend to cater to a) people who need food fast for their lunch break or b) people who are too drunk to have a functional palate. Mint would be a case in point. Between all of us we had 1. the sampler plate; everything was so deep-fried and battered it could have been any appetizer from TGI Fridays and the Satay was obviously prepared previously and reheated. 2. the lunch Pad Prik (with chicken), which was good 3. the red curry which was the thickest I'd ever tasted, but not at all flavorful as the vegetables within it were essentially raw 4. the lunch Pad Thai (with tofu) which was also very good. So, in sum: two good meals, two bad ones. Not good odds. But the plus side is the lunch specials are very economical (around $8 10 a plate)...but as usual, you get what you pay for.

I went there yesterday for lunch with 3 of my anatomy classmates for lunch. The decoration was fancy, so I expected the food there is as good as it looks. I ordered Pad Thai - which is on their lunch special, and it came with a bowl of soup, salad, and a tiny piece of spring roll for $8 Pad Thai - very bland. I had to ask the waiter to bring me extra fish sauce and chili so that it tasted just right. Salad - it's supposed to be house special salad, but I didn't find it delicious at all. The salad dressing tasted weird and grainy. Soup - my friend said it tasted like Tum Yum soup. I never had it before, so all I can say is that it was sour and salty. I think they put too much fish sauce and vinegar. Spring roll - not crunchy at all, and there is nothing special about it. Service - excellent. One of my friend didn't get anything, and the waiter offered her a bowl of soup for freeeee!! Overall, I will not go back again. Food is too expensive when it's not for the lunch special. The bathroom is very pretty with the hand wash station located outside of the bathrooms.

Ordered delivery over 2.5 HOURS ago... Still not here. We live 3 blocks away... UPDATE: 4 HOURS have now passed. Haven't gotten our food. Spoke with the delivery driver and he said he was 2 minutes away. Called them back after 20 minutes elapsed and no answer. Physically went to the restaurant to get our food and they are all closed up. Our Amex was charged and yet we have been given multiple different answers on where our food is, yet still no food. The food isn't even worth this... We only order because its right down the street from us. Don't waste your money or your time on this place.

The food was mediocre but reasonably priced. The service? Horrendous. A friend and I decided to go to this place for lunch. We got there about 11:30 and there were two other tables. Drink orders arrived quickly but then we waited about 10 minutes to place our order. The entree's came out 10 minutes later. No problem except that we had ordered the fresh spring rolls as our appetizer. They arrived 5 minutes after the entree's. We sent them back and asked they be removed from our bill. No one said "sorry, our mistake". We got an "ok". Then the service really suffered. No tea refills unless we asked, just like the other patrons around us. We waited 10 minutes for the check. When it arrived, you'd think it had leper's disease. No one touched it. They just kept walking by it. Meanwhile, other tables were getting up and going to the servers, who seemed baffled by the register, and asking for the checks, to go boxes, etc. After glances and waving like we were bringing in a 747, someone other than our server got the check. Another 5 minutes before they ran the card. This place was not packed! It was a regular lunch crowd. Won't be back.

Mint is a cool place in downtown for Thai food. Unlike other spots in gaslamp its not pretentious or outrageously priced. The decor inside tries to be classy and modern but it just feels a bit empty and museum like. The food is good, no complaints there. Nothing too fancy but they use quality fresh ingredients. As mentioned before the prices are extremely reasonable. Here's a tip: park at horton plaza and validate for 3 hrs of free parking. This way you can skip the hassle of trying to find a place to park in gaslamp and also you don't have to pay. YIPPEE. If you do not want to deal with the hassle of being in downtown, I wouldn't recommend coming to Mint. It is nothing too spectacular or special, you can find something just as delicious and reasonably priced on convoy for way less hassle.

I broke one of my rules. Never go to an Asian Restaurant that doesn't have Asian employees. The food was bad, not terrible. It was edible. Service was below par. They didn't ask us how things were until the end. Wouldn't suggest it. Sucks because I'm looking for a good Asian restaurant downtown.

I was downtown for jury duty and this place is not too far from the court house so I took a walk. I had to decide between a Persian restaurant across from the street or Mint Thai and I chose Thai instead. Lunch menu was good but food is not that great. I had pad see ew and thai tea. Service was very slow due to a big crowd and not enough staffs. It took a good 15 minutes for me to get my check. I definitely wished I went to try the Persian restaurant across the street...ehh next time. I'm sure I'll be by the court house again for jury duty with my kind of luck with the system.

Above average Thai food but I was not impressed. (I have been to Thailand and I have eaten lots of Thai food). This is "Americanized" Thai--no chopsticks and rice was served as a scoop with the dish instead of an endless bowl. Sample appetizer was alright--satay chicken was really tasty; the rest was fine--spring rolls, eggrolls, tempura vegetables, etc. Pad say yew--Shrimp was definitely overcooked (wrinkled and curled), not enough scrambled egg and what we had was clumped, and noodles were too sweet. (This is all easily correctable). The hot spicy basil stir fry with pork was not good--meat was dry and we didn't taste any basil. The penang curry with chicken was okay but not enough chicken and way too much pineapple as filler (pineapple should not be there). Banana fritters (2) on top of ice cream (we had our choice of coconut, Thai, green tea) was okay. The prices were reasonable--$9 for chicken, beef, or pork as the meat or $10 for shrimp. Service was slow in the beginning--took a while to get our orders. Conveniently located next to Horton Plaza!

Very slow service, waitress was very impolite, we ended up having to talk to the manager. Food wasn't that great, very small portions for expensive price.

Fair enough thai food. Went here with mamma bear after a bunch of gaslamp shenanigans. The bathroom situation is kind of weird. There are a bunch of benches back there for.... waiting in line for the bathroom? I don't get it, and I feel like that back area is a big waste of space. Our server was new, great, and cute. My Pad Thai was slightly above average. Still if you are downtown, and you want thai food there are only a couple of options and both are passable.

  • Ashley U.

So one of the perks of living downtown is DELIVERY! My options are pizza, china too, pizza, pizza, j wok and mint. Mint usually wins out when I don't want pizza. Granted, it's not the BEST thai I've ever eaten, actually not really anywhere close, but when it comes to thai delivery, it satisfies the craving. Food typically arrives within 30-40 minutes. We live about 1 mile from their location. We usually order the red or yellow curry with chicken or duck. Then the hot basil stir fry, pad see ew, and/or pad thai. Followed up with the sticky rice and mango for a sweet treat. My biggest gripe, is the food is dry? The protein in the dishes area always somewhat overcooked and tough. But, it's edible, and I am a lazy ass where I like food brought to me while I watch tv in the comfort of my living room. I've never eaten in the restaurant, so I can't say much about their service or ambiance.

  • Lindsey B.

First, I'll admit.. I shouldn't be the person to review Thai because all I ever eat are spring rolls and pad see ew, however I do like it enough to talk about it so here goes. Same complaint everyone seems to have was the service. ***Owner/Manager: hire more people.*** It was waaaay too slow and took too long to so much as get water. Then even longer to order. The food, however, was good. I got pad see ew of course. My friend got the thai chiken salad which was also good and had an enormous amount of sliced chicken on top. I'd go back on account of the food but maybe consider getting it to go.

so, this is an average thai spot in the gaslamp - with plenty of bells and whistles... look up, the ceiling is cool... go wash your hands, the sinks are cool... cant come in? they deliver; which is always cool. but heres where i give it +1 star: on the panang curry, they serve a fried eggplant dipped in a scrambled egg wash... so delicious, and very similar to one of my favorite filipino treats (torta talong)........and this awesome dessert: mango wontons with coconut ice cream (see picture).

  • M K.

Do yourself a favor and don't go here. The place is not good! I read the reviews before going here and I thought "maybe today the food won't be as bad as they described it in the reviews". Wrong. The 2 stars is for the fresh spring roll we had, it was decent, but how can you really screw up spring rolls, they don't even need to be cooked! We also ordered the tofu pad tai. The noodles were way too sweet, and the tofu was so chewy I could barely eat it. I would never go here again!

Delivery- 2 Stars Dine In/Take Out- 3.5 stars I have dined in here a few times and it's always pretty good. Service is prompt and friendly. Curry is yummy. But my boyfriend and I tend to get delivery and there's not much good to say about that. We normally wait 1.5- 2 HOURS! for our delivery and we are only 4 blocks away. (We get delivery at least twice a week from them and the wait is always like this.) My Massaman curry used to be awesome which is why I'd put up with the longass delivery but lately every time I get it it gets more and more watery. Last night I waited 2 hours for spicy water. I think I'm done with Mint. If you're in the mood for Thai, dine in or take out. Hopefully the curry is still good that way.

Having spent much of my childhood in Thailand, I am no "inexperience patrons who know nothing about quality Thai cuisine balanced with friendly service and great prices". This place has potential, but it doesn't deserve a 5 star rating as it is now. The location is good, right by Horton Plaza on the Gaslamp Quarter's restaurant row. The outside looks small, but the place opens up inside even though it's very dimly lit. There's a greeter outside who'll seat you, then your main server takes over most of the rest (there's another float server who seems to handle serving the appetizers). My server was a knowledgeable American girl, very efficient and not overly attentive (she lets you eat in peace). There's a bar and a rather large wine list (a weird thing for a Thai restaurant). The food... the menu price is on the high side of moderate, I think. I ordered lunch special panang curry with beef and he ordered lunch special pad Thai with chicken. We both got a tiny cup of lukewarm tom yum vegetable soup that tasted rather terrible. Very bland, and the bitty bits of carrots floating in it were crunchy and tasteless. The main dishes arrived soon after. Mine, the panang beef curry, came with steamed rice (was offered choices of white or brown rice. I went with the former), lettuce salad with watered down peanut sauce, a cute little fried egg rolls. His was the same without rice. The panang beef was a disgrace. The beef was tough. I don't know why they insisted on fancy cut carrot bits. Would have liked more effort put into improving the taste rather than on the look. I ordered the curry 'medium' spicy, so they just dumped a spoonful of dried chilli on top of the amazingly bland curry. It hardly tasted anything or it was just hot (where the chilli was). His pad Thai was even worse. I almost thought they did the Southern version of it with lots of tamarind juice, but not really. It was just a glob of noodle (it all stuck together) with a lot of watery pad Thai sauce and overcooked chicken and limp water sprouts. We thought about the sweet sticky rice with custard desert, but thought better of it... Bottom line: Food is below mediocre, especially for this menu price. Service was fine to me. Would prefer a better lit dining area.

I went here with 4 other friends for SD restaurant week. It was $20 for an appetizer, main course, and dessert, but there were more options for the main course compared to most restaurants for SD restaurant week, so we decided to try it. From the beginning the restaurant proved to be subpar. They did not have our reservation ready, even though the restaurant was less than half full. The service was not friendly or helpful. I asked about vegetarian options, and the waitress responded, "We have lots of vegetarian options." That was it. The appetizers came out at different times, and our silverware was given to us after our food. Also one of the dishes "Rad-Ka" came with bacon... not the most authentic of Thai restaurants. On the plus side the portion sizes were fairly large, the 4 out of 5 of us enjoyed the food, and the bathroom is impressive. The curries were the best of the dishes we ordered, the noodle dishes were too oily. I do not think it was worth the $20 because of the lack of efficiency, poor service, and inauthenticity, and most likely will not return.

Disaster all around Chicken Pad Thai- noodles were bland and all stuck together in one giant clump. Worst pad thai I've ever had in my life Spring roll- soggy and disgusting Cashew Chicken- bland and three tiny pieces of beef Never will order from them again

Got lucky and came in during happy hour and prices were half off. The dumplings, egg rolls and satay were plated very nicely. The dumplings were my favorite with the dipping sauce- very yummy! Ordered my main entree which was the chicken Panang in yellow curry sauce. This was labeled as medium spicy but I couldn't eat it. It was too spicy for my taste but my boyfriend loved it. The place was very nice intimate and very nice decor. Staff was attentive.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in Downtown desperately and ran into Mint Thai. I was not expecting much but i think the food was pretty good also the service. It was a Friday night and no wait , pretty fast service. Prices are very reasonable . We had Pad Thai beef and Panang Curry Chicken. They both were very delicious although the Curry was very spicy . All in all I would go there again .

Do not order for delivery! Two and a half hours later and I still don't have my food. Sunday dinner just became chips and a bowl of ice cream. Avoid Mint Downtown Thai. I will never make this mistake again.

Normally, my inner thai food prude would give this place 3 stars (moreso because of the subpar service), but the food deserves a pretty solid 4. The menu is cheap-moderate depending on what time of day you go. You really can't beat the $7 lunch special. Soup, salad, egg roll, AND an entree?! This pleases my heffer appetite quite greatly. And if you frequent/work in downtown, Mint totally kicks Thai Times ass (with its hands behind its back and blindfolded). P.S. for you amateurs, thai HOT is waaaaay different than any hot or spicy american food you've eaten. It gets weird when you're profusely sweating and begging the waitress to dry freeze your tongue.

Went here for restaurant week The food wasn't bad. I enjoyed their satay for starters. It's your basic chicken satay with peanut dipping sauce. 3.5 out of 5 sporks. I also had the lettuce wraps. But it was mostly made of rice and not enough beef so I was disappointed. I wouldn't recommend it. 2 out of 5 sporks. For my entree I had the drunken fried rice. It was way to spicy for my liking. So I would recommend mild. Overall it was OK 3 out of 5 sporks. Dessert was the best part of the meal for me. coconut ice cream. 5 out of 5 sporks. The service was OK but not as attentive as it should have been. There were times when my glass was not filled up when I needed it. And we didn't get silverware with our meals I had to take it from another table. But I will say one waitress by the name of Cathy was very nice to me. So I'll give her credit for that. Plus I thought she was pretty cute. The decor was pretty nice. Not a bad spot for an intimate dinner. I would recommend making reservations because I had to wait to get in. Overall, this is an OK thai place. The food isn't bad but it doesn't blow my mind away. But I do like the atmosphere and decor. If you're in downtown and close by it's worth taking a date here. But I wouldn't go out of my way. There is potential for improvement though.

FREE DELIVERY.. Boom! This place delivers FOR FREE to my home and my office, so instantly that gets three stars off the bat. However, the actual food is pretty good and decently priced - Green Curry: Yep! That's basically all I ever order at thai places. But this lunch plate is a good deal. $7 and you get a salad, egg roll, and the curry with rice. The salad looked a bit pathetic, so I didn't eat it. The egg roll was alright too. But the curry. Pretty damn tasty. I had it medium spicy, but definitely will go up another notch on the spice meter. It's a lot of curry, so I also had it for lunch the next day too. - Pad See Eu: This is a ok dish. The lunch portion is huge, so you can definitely split it. Its a bit heavy on the soy sauce, so tell them to lighten up on that, and its a tasty dish. - Yellow Curry: Good curry with well cooked veggies. The curry has a good flavor that has a nice cream and thick base to it. - Spring Rolls: Spring rolls are cut up a bit more, instead of served up whole like Vietnamese Spring rolls. These are good. Well executed and decent. All in all. This place delivers! They have a $10 min order, so you end up getting a diet coke too if you just get the lunch special. Also, make sure you try to have exact cash. The delivery guy forgot change so had to run down to his car and get some. Kinda random and I was a bit worried he may not come back. But for real. This place delivers! You rarely get delivery places in SD! Done! Done! Done. One of my new favorite thai places in sd :)

Flat out worst Thai food I have ever had in my life. I love thai food but I just cannot fathom how bad this one was. I am a picky eater so I thought maybe its just me! But when my friend tried it, she had the same opinion about it. I ordered curried fried rice and it just tasted like curry powder sprinkled all over the rice. No flavor, no zest! Same goes for yellow curry. Never again!!

I don't know why I kept giving this place a chance. Mint Thai is located two blocks from my office, and it's fair to say that I've been there over two dozen times over the past year. Today was my final visit. One thing remains consistent with Mint Downtown Thai: they will manage to *always* make you leave with disappointment and regret. At least six times (no exaggeration!) they forgot parts of my order, or completely messed it up. How is it possible to forget if a customer orders Gluten-free?! It's a freakin allergy! Not only is the service awful, but you'll like be waiting for your food about 20-30 minutes longer than expected. Don't even consider it during a busy day, or especially during San Diego Restaurant week! They're understaffed, and the few employees they have clearly have no clue what they're doing. Save yourself the trouble and avoid Mint Downtown Thai at all costs.

Very yummy. Never crowded. Casual attire. The Tom Ka soup is amazing...best I've had. We also use the online ordering...there are 2 red zone spots in front where you can park for a minute if you're just running in to pick up your order.

Unless you want to wait two hours for your delivery, have to walk down the street to meet the delivery guy who is too lazy to actually look for your house, eat cold slimy noodles, and have the management do nothing to make it right for you, do NOT order from here!!!! Sorry Mint Thai, but maybe you should rethink your life...customer service is not your thing!

Those who do not see the value in this amazing place are inexperienced patrons who know nothing about quality Thai cuisine balanced with friendly service and great prices. I particularly am addicted to the stir fried eggplant with chicken and the hot basil. You really need to come in and try it for your self.

I've never left a one star review before, but here it is... Mint Downtown Thai: Utterly appalling. While I've eaten there before and found it to be spectacularly mediocre - I hurt my foot training tonight and was sucked in by the idea of home delivery. Plus, I'm not above giving second chances. So, a few hours ago, I rang to order dinner. When I called, I was "put on hold", where I waited for ten minutes before I gave up. I hung up and called back, mentioned what had happened, and it was barely acknowledged. Anyway, I placed my order, and asked for delivery - usually I would go pick it up, but see the aforementioned bung foot situation. I was told it would be an hour wait. An hour and a half goes by, and I call to see what the situation is: Food just left. Not our fault. Driver's fault. It's coming. 10 minutes. Another half an hour goes by. Still not our fault. Still on its way. 10 minutes. I don't know if it was ever going to come, because soon after that, I called and canceled the order. What a joke.

This place is completely amazing!!! I have not enjoyed a restaurant this much in awhile! First of all, this place was in a awesome location, right in the middle of everything. Perfect location. The staff was great, very friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely incredible!! If you are a wing person, defiantly give the Bankok wings a try...very awesome!! Oh, and to top it off....green tea ice cream. Where has this been all of my life?

Don't take my 2-stars the wrong way. I don't regret eating here, but it's a solid "Meh. I've experienced better." Mint Thai, located in the Gaslamp near Horton Plaza, is quiet, lovely, and lacks the arrogant pretense that I lot of Gaslamp restaurants like to flaunt. Being in Gaslamp, of course, means dealing with annoying parking. Thankfully it's super close to the Horton Plaza parking garage. Make a quick detour into the mall, hit up one of the validation machines, and bam! free parking. My boyfriend and I are frequent but exceptionally boring Thai restaurant patrons. I always get the Pad Thai with tofu; he always gets the Pad See Ew with either tofu or mock duck. Our visit to Mint was no exception. I ordered my Pad Thai with medium heat, which is usually what I order (snooze, right?), but I would call this a pretty hot medium. I can generally take my spice, but I was all snotty-nose-runny-eyes half way through my dish. It didn't ruin it, but beware when picking your spice level. The sauce was a little on the sweet side, but decent. The tofu, though pretty good, was not exactly plentiful. The little tofu bits that are standard in the Pad Thai regardless of what "meat" you order.....how do I put this.....I tasted a couple, thinking, "What in the world does this taste like....?" It finally hit me that they tasted exactly like Fresh Step kitty litter smells. I'm not trying to be funny or exaggerate, but whatever seasoning they used on the little tofu bits made it taste like I was eating our cats' poo gravel. Needless to say, I ate around those once I figured out what I was tasting. The bf's Pad See Ew was fine, but nothing special. He ordered his as mild, but he was still sweating a little. He got the mock duck this time, which I guess was also good-not-great. The service was good; friendly, prompt, and our iced teas were always filled. I've had better Thai elsewhere in SD, so I probably won't be back.

I don't understand why this place wasn't more crowded because the food and the service merit your attention! It was weird because the restaurant was near empty at 9pm on a Saturday night, but we read other reviews and decided it was worth a shot. Pleasant surprise. I would have given just 4 stars but the waitress Ashli (sp?) was really cool, and my friends were saying afterwards that she made it worth a 5 star review (nothing kinky implied). Positives: Food was good and service was even better. It was the waitress' little attention to details, like when she noticed my discreet vegetarian friends ordered a couple veggie dishes, she asked them "are you vegetarian, because sometimes fish sauces find their way into dishes, and we can work around that if you're vegetarian." Waitress was patient even though it was getting late. Negatives: The mint saketini was good, but the Thai saketini was a bit like a watered down Thai iced tea....the sake didn't have enough bite to carry the drink. Food: The pepper garlic steak was great, the calamary was as good as other reviews say it is, and the drunken noodles (which we ordered with scallops) were good too. Vegetarian tofu skewers were good. Coconut water was great!

Ok - more than 3 stars, but not a full four stars. We're fans of Ra Ka De Ka and so when we heard that Mint was the upscale sibling of our favorite Thai quick serve place, we checked it out, with a coupon from Uptown magazine. Went in a weeknight and parked at Horton Plaza. Easily got a table. I ordered the E-San Classic, which is a chunk of Thai BBQ chicken, sticky rice, and a papaya lime peanut salad. That salad was spicy stuff, while my chicken was tasty. Just wish there was a little more of the chicken. Wasn't too keen on the sticky rice. My wife got the garlic and pepper steak - ribeye in a garlic and pepper sauce, which she thought was pretty good. Then again, when we go to Ra Ka De Ka she gets garlic and pepper beef. Some wine accompanied our meal and the service was pretty good. If I worked downtown, I'd probably hit them up for lunch and get more bang for the buck. But for dinner, it's a little out of the way for us, and we could probably do just as well with going to Ra Ka De Ka most of the time.

This place would get at least one more star if the service hadn't been slower than heck when I went. My group was at the restaurant for over an hour and a half and it only took us fifteen minutes to eat. I went again for takeout and didn't have the wait but the sit-down was awful.

BEWARE : Even if you are eating alone, an 18% gratuity may be INCLUDED! Esp. if it is the male waiter with specs. Just back from eating at Mint and furious! I live in downtown and have been to Mint about 10 times atleast by now. Reason - I loved the curry fried rice and ra-ka noodles. Not anymore!! I am not sure if the chef/management has changed but it is no longer what it was, atleast for me. I ordered my ra-ka noodles spicy and what I received is a bland plate with a stand-offish suggestion to add some of the spices from the ones provided on the table. In that case, I would have cooked up something in my own kitchen than walk into this place. To add to my woes, my husband and I received a bill that included an 18% tip. That never was the case before. Well, either ways, both the food and the attitude of this guy who served us has put me off Mint forever now. Its an adieu to a once much-loved place, forever.

You know, having grown up in Thailand, I have pretty high standards for Thai food, and I have to say I was surprised that a Thai place in the heart of Gaslamp, where drunks and tourists abound, actually had good Thai flavour, at least for a few things. Lettuce wraps, som tum, and yum neau were yummy with very fresh ingredients. I appreciated that when I asked for spicy, they actually gave me spicy, and this was pounded and/or tossed in with the rest of the ingredients as they must be (to infuse the flavour), rather than simply having chilis chopped and sprinkled on top or been given a container of extra chili sauce like some places do. It MUST be mixed in with the flavour, and they did that right. E-San Classic (gai yang isaan) was also decent. Chicken had good texture and flavour. I would have preferred a little more of that ginger/lemongrassy stuffing to come out in the flavour, but it was present, and there are dozens of Thai gai yang variations. Kao soi was yummy too. Not exactly Chiang Mai street vendor flavour, but pretty good, and I was nostalgic. Consistency of quality and flavour across the menu would be appreciated, though. Their curries really leave something to be desired - missing that pounded fresh galangal, kaffir lime, and lemongrass flavour and lacking the body that only comes from fermented shrimp paste. Cringe if you wish, but Thai curry paste must be pounded with them to taste right. The different types only vary in a few ingredients - dry roasted or fresh green chilis for red/green; with or without coriander seed, kaffir lime leaves, white peppercorns; replacing the spices with turmeric, cinnamon, and star anise for yellow; nutmeg/mace/clove/cardamom/cinnamon for massaman; pounded with roasted peanuts and dry cooking for panang. We've tried both the panang (far too sweet, but without other flavour) and the massaman. I don't understand the pineapple in the panang - really unnecessary, and it was bland beyond the sweetness. The massaman lacked the richness of the spices too. I also can't tell you how annoying it is to get a hot basil dish and have it littered with all kinds of random vegetables, half of which take away from the hot and fresh flavour of the basil and smother with their sweetness. What the hell are zucchini and carrots doing in my grapow dish? It should be spicy meat, garlic, fish sauce, lime, and a touch of sugar, all tied together with a generous portion of hot basil...THAT'S IT. I don't want to swim through other vegetables to find my basil. All in all, I think this place (surprisingly) seems to do better with the north and northeastern styled dishes, or at least, the Khrung Thep take on those dishes, than their cooked central Thai dishes. So it's worth a stop if you happen to be in the area and hungry. But if you're looking for good, fresh, flavourful Isaan (Northeastern) Thai food, then I'd say get some cash and head over to Sab-E-Lee in Linda Vista.

Their location is probably not the best in terms of Gaslamp tourists' foot traffic. Only those who dare venture off the bustling 5th Ave to the darker part of Gaslamp (which, should I say, only a block away) would stumble upon this place, sitting amongst adult video stores, failed yogurt shop, dive bars and sketch hotels. And sure enough, on a Thursday evening, despite the amazingly crowded 5th Ave during peak dinner time, these guys only had two tables occupied. Thankfully it has everything to do with the location and nothing to do with the food. Now I know purists' first question was whether it is authentic Thai. Well, no. Not really, as demonstrated by the . Do I care? No, as long as the food was tasty. And they were - tom kha gai (spicy chicken galangal soup) was too creamy to be authentic, almost approaching the consistency of a curry. However, it was hearty, extremely spicy (by request) and there was enough chicken to make it a full meal and not a mere appetizer. The stir-fry basil and chili pork with brown rice was also good, although they probably could've cut the pork pieces a little bit bigger since the average size of the pieces was a puny half an inch!!!!!

I love Mint. The red curry chicken is delicious! I'm a curry addict and enjoy this great blend of red curry with bamboo shoots, bell peppers and onions. It's so robust and tasty...I'm actually craving it right now. It's not oily by any means like some of the other curries I've eaten at other restaurants. I always order this dish with chicken, but you also have the option of having the red curry with beef, shrimp, combo or as a vegetarian dish. Mint Downtown Thai is one of the more affordable restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter. You're still in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Downtown SD, but without the headache of having to drop a bunch of cash. The food is excellent and the service matches. The location is awesome because it's kind of attached to the Horton Plaza mall, so you won't have trouble finding parking (Just remember to validate your ticket inside the mall before 9pm). Factoid - Mint is owned by the same people who own 'Thai Time II' on Midway and 'Thai Time III' on Genessee/Balboa, so if you're ever in the Sports Arena area or Kearny Mesa, check out these sister restaurants.

Mint Downtown Thai is brand new, opened on Thursday and I must say I'm happy they did. They are right next to Sammys Woodfired Pizza downtown and they offer authentic Thai food at an amazing low price. I ordered the Thai Chicken Salad that was actually created by the owner Ray. It is by far the best salad I've had. The service was amazing and top knotch while the atmosphere of the place was very sleek. Do yourself a favor and stop by for an amazing experience.

Granted, I'm from OC where good Thai pod is easy to find. At this place, it's more like Thai fusion. Flavors were off on the spring rolls and the Pad See Lew contained flavorless, dry chicken. There's a Thai Bistro a block over that I'll try next time but the nice decor and good service was a plus. I need to try more dishes here I think but based on what 'we' ordered, three stars is the best I can do.

UGH. I would have only given this place one star, but I have to give an extra for how sweet our server was. We also saw the coupon in Downtown Magazine and decided to try this place last night. We went in and it was empty. Okay, it was a rainy Sunday night, so maybe not a lot of people were out... We ordered the pot stickers and they were okay. Not bad, not great. Just okay. Then our dinners came. My boyfriend ordered the peanut noodles. This consisted of some spaghetti type pasta with frozen vegetables. It was cold, and the noodles were very soggy, so we (nicely) sent it back to be heated up. I ordered the lettuce wraps. Shortly thereafter we started to smell something like, well, to put it nicely manure. It was very strong and I mean this with no sarcasm, I thought I might have stepped in something on the way. That wasn't it. The boyfriend exclaimed the smell was coming from the lettuce wraps and UGH, he was right. I don't know if it was a spice or what, but it was in a word-awful. We let them know what was going on and told them we'd be dining elsewhere and did leave a tip. Again, I will write that the server was quite gracious and understanding. It was a big disappointment. I had high expectations for this place, and hope it was just a fluke, but that experience assured I most likely won't be back.

HORRIBLE SERVICE! Ordered for delivery, called back twice and after 2 hours and a 3rd call was told the driver could not find our huge complex and simply decided to return the food to the restaurant, no one thought to call us and let us know. As far as an offer to fix it: they offered to send it with a different driver "but it will be cold and you'll have to hear it up".... Wow!!!

My sister and I found a coupon for this place: BUY one entree & 2 drinks, get one entree free, so we decided to check it out for lunch. We love Thai food and have been to many Thai restaurants in search of deeelicious wide/thick noodles. There was no one in the restaurant when we went in which was a little unnerving... and although the decor is modern and in good taste it probably would have been more suitable for dinner. We ordered the DRUNKEN noodles(bell pepper, onions, beef, and SPICY!) and the PANANG curry (chicken, basil, pineapple, bell pepper, coconut milk) & 2 drinks. Our total came out to $16 which is pretty good for Thai food especially. The food was very tasty. The noodles weren't exactly what we had been searching far and wide for, but they had good flavor and good portion size. The curry was a little on the thick side, but still the flavor was good and we substituted the bell pepper for green beans which are my favorite! My sister and I really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back for lunch. They have great lunch specials. For example, entrees including soup, eggroll, and rice for $7 dollars. One down side is that the restaurant is incredibly cold... but the cool bathrooms and sinks make up for it haha. YUM!

I'm a huge Thai food lover and a frequent traveler to Thailand, so I like trying new Thai restaurants. I found my experience at Mint to be consistent with a lot of other reviewers: nice place/atmosphere, good service, mediocre food. We went in on a weeknight and the place was almost empty except for 2 or 3 tables. The server was a non-Thai guy who was really good and attentive throughout the meal. Not that it matters, but none of the service staff looked like they were Thai which was disappointing because I always like to practice speaking Thai (and I need a lot of practice). Anyway onto what's important: the food. We started with the som tam, which I find to rarely be any good in American Thai restaurants and it was the same here (the one huge local exception being the incredible som tam at Sab-e-Lee). The papaya was sort of limp and not crunchy and the flavor seemed off even though it was fairly spicy. I don't know what they used to spice it up, but I don't think it was Thai peppers as I didn't see any of those in any of their dishes. We also had the Tom Yam soup which was also OK, just not exceptional in any way. We shared the other dishes Thai style and they were tasty, but again not exceptional. We had the house fried rice which was good, but it tasted like Chinese fried rice and not what I eat in Thailand, except the addition of pineapple was nice. We had the Thai basil chicken which did come with the traditional fried egg (kai dao) on top, but again it was average. We got their spice tray which included Italian red pepper (complete with the big yellow seeds) just like in a pizza parlor, and a "Thai" fish sauce (naam bplaa) that had some type of green peppers in it that were not the Thai prik kee nuu peppers that are supposed to be in fish sauce. One other nice thing is that they serve my favorite Beer Chang in both the large and small bottles. Also, the prices were really reasonable especially for the Gaslamp. Overall, I would say it was an average food experience that didn't seem very Thai. I think they would be better going the fusion route and I hope they make it and improve as it is a nice place inside with good service. This place could easily be great for many diners who aren't as picky as me about the authenticity of Thai food.

Good prices. I wanted something light, so I went for the cashew nut chicken. Very bright colors and refreshing. The vegetables were crunchy and delicious. I also enjoyed the Thai ice tea -- not excessively sweet. Nothing special, but it tasted good. Only complaint was that the service was a bit slow, even though there were only three tables occupied (really two, considering one was still waiting for friends and not ready to order yet). Also, the waitress at the entrance seemed to be ignoring lots of incoming phone calls for take-out orders. It wasn't loud or that annoying, just strange. Still, an overall positive rating for the food that I ordered and the reasonable prices.

Worst service ever! After 2 hours waiting for delivery, I called twice and was finally told that the driver couldn't find my house and my food was back at the restaurant. The lady I spoke with was so unprofessional, unhelpful and rude!

I'm so happy this place exists. Rama is beautiful, the food is hit and miss and the crowd can make it a nightmare at times. Royal Thai leaves me underwhelmed. Lotus Thai is too far, as is Celadon, Sab E Lee and Amarin. Mint is in a great, albeit shady, location. But it more than makes up for it with delightful service and a great meal for someone who isn't expecting the best meal of their lives. I usually don't post a review until I've dined at least twice at an establishment. The first time was only for dessert. Of course, I had the fried bananas and the mango and sticky rice. Both on par. The second time I went for dinner and had the satay. I think Saffron's is better. The crunch tofu is always good. There aren't too many ways to mess up fried tofu. I skipped on the soup because I didn't want to be disappointed. I love Tom Kah and I wanted to keep the Rama version in my memory for a bit longer. It's like eating sunflower seeds and the last one tastes like ass. We ordered a bunch of things and shared family style: Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Pad Woon Sen, Curry Fried Rice and Eggplant Stir Fry. None were mind blowing but for the price i feel like we ended up on the winning side. There are too many times where I walk out of a Thai restaurant feeling like I was inappropriately fondled. The prices are great, the happy hour is a nice touch. Parking is a B but just park in Horton Plaza during lunch. I'd go back.

Went here with my boyfriend and bffs and the 4 of us had a little pre-new year's eve happy hour fun, sake and all. The happy hour is a great deal, with many of the appetizers half price (basically everything except the shrimp ones). We ordered the fresh rolls, chicken dumplings (basically they were fried pot stickers), chicken satay, and cream cheese triangles. We also got a large pot of the tom yum soup with chicken for all of us to share, and 2 entrees - pad thai (which was a little different because it had a reddish tint to it and maybe some chili or rooster sauce?) and hot basil entree with chicken, which had a nice sauce and really fresh delicious veggies in it. The portion of the hot basil seemed a little small, kind of what I would think of as a "1 person" plate for lunch, or when you are not sharing with anyone, but since we WERE sharing and also had a ton of other food, it wasn't a big deal. We also used a coupon from one of those uptown magazines and got either 1/2 of the 2nd entree or fully off, I don't remember. So for 4 people, tons of happy hour appetizers, a large order of soup, and two entrees, and 4 or so sakes, it was only $40! Service was good, with our server who brought our drinks and some food, a guy bring out food and bussing, and another girl filling waters. They were all friendly. The food is good (a solid 3.5-4), but for the amount you get and the price (especially after happy hour/coupons), it's definitely worth checking out!

We haven't been impressed with most of the Thai restaurants in Gaslamp, so we were very excited to try Mint Downtown Thai. We ordered the chicken pad thai and a dish which unfortunately I have forgotten the name of it but it was beef with garlic and veggies. The pad thai was absolutely fantastic! We have found our new thai restaurant in Gaslamp! The other dish was great as well but our fave was definitely the pad thai. Our server shared with us that the owner's mother actually does a lot of the cooking and their menu includes many family recipes! They plan on inaugurating Mint officially in October, I'm sure by then, they will have their liquor license =) We can't wait to go back!

The food was ok. The service was terrible. It took quite a long time and I do realize the girl working was by herself, but the place was pretty much empty. My bill was$11.88 and I put a $20 on the tray. When the waitress came, she looked at me and said" do you want your change?" I just thought that was cheesy, and embarrassing, so I just walked out. I was gonna tip her $4 or $5 dollars anyhow, but that was just unprofessional.

Food was fantastic and I was amazed at what we got for the low lunch prices. Friends and I sampled Drunken Noodle, Pad Thai, Pepper Steak etc and every one loved their meals. Lunch special includes soup, salad, spring roll and entree for between 7-10$. Service was quick and pleasant.

Came here with the bf one night we were gallavanting downtown. When we got here it wasn't busy at all. We were greeted right away. The walls were pained red with a couple of paintings; it's not what you would usually see at most Thai restaurants. This one seemed very "Americanized." The prices were pretty cheap, especially since we were in the downtown area. The prices were usually the same prices as other Thai places you would go to around SD. We ordered shrimp pad thai and cashew chicken, each both being 5 on a spicy level. When we got our food it was the perfect spiciness. I would have gotten it hotter because I love spicy food, but my boyfriend doesn't really like spicy foods. Overall a good Thai place for decent price in downtown. I would definitely come back!

Stopped here for a quick snack and really took advantage of their GREAT happy hour menu. The portions are a little small but reasonably priced during happy hour. And you can get a really good deal on alcohol during happy hour too! The service was great and the wait for the food was short even though everything was cooked to order. Recommend the chicken satay (really good peanut sauce for dipping), the pad thai, deep fried banana (REALLY GOOD! melts in your mouth!!), and the fried tofu.

Holy long delivery Batman! We ordered delivery at 6:15 tonight and were told 30-45 minutes. That seemed reasonable given we live 5 blocks away An hour goes by....1:15....1:30....still nothing. After 3 separate calls, we were told our order left the restaurant an hour ago and "will be there soon". Kept saying 10 minutes away, but in reality they had no idea where the delivery guy was. As recourse, they offered my fiancé 10% off our next order...what next order was my reaction? Not after this experience. Finally received our food about 1:45 after ordering- so much for eating at a good hour. The food was decent, although everything was lukewarm since it apparently was in the delivery car for a hour plus. Next time I'll be smarter and just order from Lotus Thai.

Saturday night 5:30 PM. Not crowded. Two soups. $5 small Wonton. Lots of flavor and a great broth. $9 Large Tom Kha with pork. Huge portion in heated crock pot. The clay pot on top stayed warm heated by small flame in a clay pot below. I like this system better than circular metal bowl system that some Thai restaurants use. The Tom Kha broth was fantastic with rich coconut milk and seasoning. You can request the soup from mild to extra hot. Lots of pork in the soup. Definitely a great value. This large soup could easily serve 2 or 3 people. Have only tried the soups. The prices on the rest of their menu are very reasonable for the Gaslamp. Service and atmosphere were great. Simple decor but clean and quiet.

Haven't been to this place in nearly a year, I was pretty excited to revisit Mint with my girlfriend. Unfortunately, the place has taken a dip in the quality of food and service. I ordered my usual pad see lew, medium-hot with chicken. It had less veggies, less chicken, same amount of noodles. My girlfriend ordered the cashew nut, medium-hot with chicken. The entree came out dry, when my girlfriend asked for more sauce the waiter said she couldn't give her more sauce because the cook would to cook a whole new stir fry. The waiter offered soy sauce instead, after we gave her blank stares the waiter went into the kitchen and got some sauce. Overall the food is ok, not good how it was, and the service was lackluster. The only good thing today were the prices as the lunch specials are priced well. If I were to rate this place about a year ago I would say four stars. This last experience wanted me to give them two stars. Because of this I'm giving it three stars and an OK rating as the lunch prices make it decent.

I am a fan! The lunch specials are WONDERFUL!!!! soup, salad and your main dish for under $10. The soup is fabulous. I get the chicken Thai fried rice and i have yet to be disappointed. The service is usually pretty fast, which is nice when i only have an hour lunch. It is the best Thai place i have had downtown thus far. I went to Thai Time and i was NOT a fan! if you are in the mood this place ur your spot!

weak thai food. the service was extremely slow. the food was just ok. they watered it down so much that everything was kindof on the bland side. tomyum soup used a canned paste! really? but i guess this is the best thai restaurant in the area, which is kinda sad.

The ambiance was great! The food just wasn't that good. Perhaps we went on an off day. I had the Pad Thai, one friend had a curry and the other the Pad se Lew. We all felt that we had had better Thai food elsewhere.

Acceptable place to get lunch - they have a $7 lunch menu which is generously portioned. The food was not bad, but even though I asked the waiter for "the spiciest on your scale" it came back mild-medium. My check even said "very hot" so if you like spicy food, this may not be the place for you. Slow service, but if you are in town for a conference it sure beats eating at the convention center!

We went to Mint Thai for happy hour and were very pleased. Half price starters and cheap drinks. Went with the Pork Skewers, Chicken Satay, spring rolls, crunchy tofu and buffalo wings (not on HH but had to try!). Everything was very good-especially the spring rolls. I am not a big tofu fan so the crunchy tofu was very plain. Great service--just a few parties in the place but a great find for us!

I tried this place with my boyfriend during Restaurant Week for his birthday dinner and I was pleasantly surprised. We had the chicken satay and Thai spring rolls for appetizers. Our entrees were the chicken pad thai and panang curry. I enjoyed all of this! Given, this isn't the best that I have tasted, but it was pretty good. Didn't care much for dessert though, we got the coconut ice cream and sweet rice with mango. Eh. Overall, I liked this place. It had a nice, chill ambiance and the place was CLEAN! The service could be better... gotta admit they really lagged. I'd come back, but only on those days I am really craving Thai food and am too lazy to drive to my favorite Thai restaurant in Clairemont. HA!

This is probably my 6th or 7th Thai restaurant I've been to. My girlfriend and I decided to eat here for my pre-celebration birthday dinner for restaurant week. Stuff we ordered: Chicken satay- Very tender and delicious! Especially good with that heavenly sauce you dip it in! Thai spring rolls- I thought it was okay, I'd rather buy the chicken satay for the appetizer. Chicken Pad Thai- very flavorful and delicious! I was just sad about how thin the noodles were. Its still good just a personal preference. Panang curry- Its good but not the best. I've had better panang curry at other thai restaurants. coconut icecream- Its good but very icy. Its more like a sorbet if anything. mango sticky rice- meh.

Okay...so, 2 days ago I ordered (for delivery)...Pad Thai, Panang Curry, and Green Papaya Salad. Here's the rundown: Pad Thai = AWESOME...great flavor, was fresh, just spicy enough, etc. Panang Curry = TERRIBLE...it was sort of congealed and a weird consistency...YIKES. Green Papaya Salad = AWESOME...it was a little small for the price, but flavor rocked. Happy eating.

Liked: the green curry chicken (very good), the prices (just $7 for lunch specials w/ chicken), the fact that they offer brown rice, and the atmosphere. Didn't like: the ridiculous wait time - over 15 minutes before they took our order and another 20-25 minutes before our food arrived - WAY too long for a "quick" lunch. Apparently a big table was seated before us, but even so. I tried the hot basil "combo" w/ chicken, beef, shrimp and calamari to try each of them out. Overall, the dish was just ok - green curry was much better. As for the meats/seafood - the chicken was definitely the best, w/ the beef coming in a close second; wasn't fond of the seafood. NOTE: If you plan on using the coupon for Downtown Magazine - note that it can't be used on the Lunch specials, just the dinner menu. The Lunch menu and coupon aren't particularly clear on this.

20% off was good, but the food portions were extremely small. We ordered a panang duck, expecting that the duck would be a large portion, enough for 3 ppl. $18 for the plate, and what do we get? a piece of duck the size of my palm. food's ok. I've had better noodles that weren't just chili flakes sprinkled throughout the dishes. If I didn't have a coupon, I would never eat here.

Maybe it's just me but this was not a good experience either in the quality of the food or the service. The waitress served two different groups who arrived and ordered long after we arrived. There were two in our party and we asked about a menu item thus prompting the waitress to have to go ask the "chef". We she returned and I asked how spicey the soup was, this again required a trip the ask the "chef". The food was just fair. For Thai, I thought it was the worst Thai I have ever had. I will say that the bathrooms were great, an unusual set-up for sinks (hey I'm trying to be positive about some aspect of this place). I thought maybe it was just me who didn't like the place but upon leaving I ran into a friend who asked me if I had a coupon for Mint Thai Restaurant, and I responded "no, why?". and he said "well I think most people locals only eat there with a coupon, it isn't the best." Beware, my co-diner asked for "mild" and it was so hot, we could not eat it. Perhaps the hispanic "chef" was thinking mild to his palate but let me tell you, it was very hot, as if it was full of habanero chiles. I will not be back.

So im guessing they don't know what "medium" means? I went here with an "Elite Yelper" for dinner during Restaurant Week. I didn't mind the wait, good thing I had good company and a bar across the street to keep me busy...So I think the wait was around 45 minutes. The food was okay. I ordered the Chicken Satay to start. The chicken was prepared perfectly but the peanut sauce wasn't so good. It lacked something. Then that was followed by the Spicy Rice which I ordered in medium heat...um can you say heavy handed with the chili oil....DAMN...! Sweating in front of someone is not attractive especially if im only eating.... My dessert was WAY too sweet but the bananas cooled my palette. I think my friend's dessert was way better than mine. He had some sort of ice cream.....and im not a fan but this was delicious! All in all I would probably return if they worked on the urgency factor of the wait staff. When you're eating spicy food it's not good to wait over 15 minutes for some sort of beverage refill when you're trying to look cute in front of your date....while sweating to death.....I was Parched!

I did really like this place until last night! We walked in at 8:45pm. There was another party in front of us and many 4 tables seated. After waiting, for the hostess to get off the phone with a call in order (roughly 5 mins of waiting and she didn't even acknowledge us), she told both parties to hold on and she went to the back of the restaurant. Then another server came back to the front and told us they were closed. FUNNY, considering their hours say open until 10pm Sun- Thurs! It isn't like we showed up 15mins before closing... it was 1 HOUR and 15 MINS!

The spot was amazing in its decor of lavish fabric with reddish burst. The dim spots was subtle that had an amazing ray, very soothing to the eyes. We started it off with an appetizer, the "Triangles"...consisting of an outter fried form shell: within the inner, imitation crab and cream cheese. It was slightly cold, didn't feel fresh or new..feels like it's been waiting for someone to eat them; guess we were the suckers. Since we did pick it, it was mandatory we can atleast try to enjoy it.....(when you eat a food have to look at each other and out comes the "blah" facial expression...something is truly wrong) Here's the main choice: Yellow Curry w/ chicken..from one to 10...a 3 (my view) Grilled Chicken..from one to 10...a 3 (my gf's view) I'm not going to hate all day, service was wonderful..atmosphere was amazing..but when your hungry after walking miles, you want to relax and chew on some yummy stuff...not leave the joint saying "never again".

The yellow curry was great, but the pud see ew wasn't that great and the panang curry was downright bad! Won't go back here. Too bad, cuz they deliver.

Pretty decent, though my beef and broccoli didn't come out as expected. There was no sauce, just sauteed beef and pieces of broccoli arrayed around a bubble of brown rice. Wasn't sure if it was enough for dinner, but my appetite was already impaired from eating out all week as I was in town for a conference. I'm sure the server meant well, but she was a bit too attentive, asking every 15 min or so whether everything was okay. My travel companion and I were having a leisurely conversation, so we were not in any particular hurry to leave. Not that the restaurant was all that busy on a Friday night anyway, which was a little strange.

Totally satisfied with meal and service. Good, clean, fresh flavors. Had the veg spring roll appetizer - pretty good - sauce is deconstructed which allows you to develope your own heat and flavor. Also had Tofu Green Curry at medium heat. Vegs are cut with ruffles so they cling the sauce. You have choice of white or brown rice. I hade the brown an it was perfectly cooked and had great flavor and texture. Would return if in the area.

My family and I ate here for dinner last night, and we really enjoyed it. Parking is easy, since the restaurant is just outside of the 4th Ave. exit of the Horton Plaza parking garage. Three hours free parking makes it well worth walking into the mall for validation. Although we weren't expecting to order appetizers, we couldn't turn down the 1/2 price Happy Hour appetizers. We ordered the spring rolls and the dumplings - the peanut sauce for the spring rolls was especially tasty. All the entrees we had were delicious, and my mother enjoyed the shredded green papaya salad that came with hers. We finished off the meal with seasonal mango and sticky rice, which was also delicious. My one and only complaint was the TINY spoons they serve with dessert - we were exhausted by the time we finished chasing the millimeter thick slices of mango all around the plate, trying to pick them up with the baby spoons! All in all, it was a great experience, and not at all crowded on a Tuesday night. I will definitely go back once I finish trying the million other restaurants in downtown that I've never tried!

Damn you stupid Mint Thai whatever your name is! We ordered $65 worth of food to be delivered the other night. They told us 30 minutes...two hours and fifteen minutes and multiple phone calls later (during which they outright lied--oh, he'll be there in five minutes! A hour later...another call...ten minutes On the way!), our food arrives just as I was about to leave for Dharma Dogs. Oh man, I was HANGRY by then. I mean, we live like 5 minutes away. And the guy barely apologized, offered no explanation, and didn't even remove the pre-paid--generous-- tip from the credit card slip! And--the food was ICE COLD. Chicken was weird. Extra spicy red curry was barely medium, and I'm a wuss. Spring rolls soggy and gross. Tom Kha full of cabbage. NO. On the plus side, GrubHub was very helpful in contacting the restaurant and gave me a $10 gift card for my trouble, which we obviously won't be using at Mint. I hate waiting for food, and liars.

Meal: weekend lunch Decor: Very nice, elegant, spacious. Loved the open sinks in the back with the stones. Food: I felt very thirsty after eating :\ -Pad Thai with Chicken: The chicken was VERY dry and flat. Pad thai noodles are thinner than most, and was on the sweeter side. -House Fried Rice: tasted like it was fried with soy sauce? Nothing special, shrimp were large and very juicy. Parking: park in Horton Plaza's structure, validate at a kiosk in the mall, then walk over.

You know...if you can get past the ridiculously long wait for delivery and how it will probably be incorrect...its not that bad. Taste wise the food is pretty good. It is just a shame how the other variables tend to mess it up. Not a terrible option, but there are much better ones to choose from.

The food was good and the lunch special prices are fair; especially for the Gaslamp. My only issue was that I called in my order and was told 10 minutes. It took me 6 to walk. 30 minutes later I had my food to go, minus the drink that they forgot, which added another 4 minutes somehow. Perhaps they'll be better next time?

Came for restaurant week! For appetizer I had the lettuce wrap, it was okay. Nothing special , my main entree was the red curry with chicken. They did not skimp at all! Hella chicken! Sauce was good, there was carrots and peas in this curry which I didn't really like. For dessert I had fried banana. It was alright, tasted sort of like turon (Filipino dessert) overall I thought it was pretty good!

Just average - the food is ok, pretty standard. I got drunken noodles with tofu. The one thing I liked was that when they asked me how spicy I wanted my food, I responded medium, and when my food came I could actually taste the spice (a lot of places when you say medium, I consider it to stil be mild). Lunch prices are OK - it was $7 for a standard lunch portion. I'm a pretty small girl but was still able to finish my entire plate. The service was not so great. It took about 10 minutes to get a glass of water even though the place was virtually empty. This was during the lunch hour too - they should be catering to the business lunch crowd downtown with quick service. The entire lunch took me about 75 minutes, which is significantly longer than the lunch break I typically take.

I live near by and would order delivery from mint quite often. One night my boyfriend and I decided we wanted mint. It was getting late so when he called, the first thing he asked was if he could order delivery. The girl said yes and so he gave all information, address and phone number and order. The girl said order should be here no later than an hour. Well an hour came and went so we called. A different girl said they weren't doing delivery today and our food has been sitting there waiting for us to pick it up. We explained that we actually placed a delivery order and the girl put us on hold. She came back and said that the girl who took our order said that we wanted delivery and then at the last second changed it to pick up. ???????? She actually argued with my boyfriend for about 15 minutes. Never said sorry and never tried to make it right. Just kept repeating the story of what her co worker said that was a complete lie. The other annoying thing was even if we DID place a pick up order, what restaurant let's food sit for over an hour and doesn't call? The unfortunate thing is if they just would have said sorry for the misunderstanding and if you want to come down and pick up your food we will remake your order so it's fresh..... We would have done that. Worst customer service ever. Thanks Lisa and Amber for ruining dinner that night.

This review may be a bit rough around the edges as I actually liked this place initially. We ordered some tasty food and it took a while to come, but when it came we were happy with it. Good tasting, not great tasting, but reasonably priced for Happy Hour. We left feeling full and happy... then just a half hour to an hour later my wife's stomach started hurting. I gave it some thought and related it back to our Happy Hour meal. My wife is a bit more prone to these kinds of aches so I felt bad for her, but thought less of it until... bam... my stomach starts hurting as well. Unlike my wife, I have a stomach of steel and not even a rotten egg could tear me up... but for some reason, this food had the same effect on my wife and I both. We were toilet bound!!! Nuff said!

In town and was looking for a place to eat near Gaslamp. Definitely think we SCORED! We ate there on a Monday night and were seated right away. They weren't really busy in the the diner--there were a lot of take outs--but there were about 5 tables and 1 server. Even with that we received great service. She was so on top of it! We got there in the nick of time before Happy Hour ended so we ordered drinks right away and 3 appetizers: fresh spring rolls, calamari and tofu. All YUM! We ended up just sharing one dish for dinner, pad thai, and we ordered it extra spicy. And was it spicy! Our noses were running for the napkin but oh it was so delicious! With 3 drinks, 3 appetizers and a main dish it totaled to $32! What a deal! We wish we left room for desserts because they sounded so good but we were so full. We would definitely go back again!

First timers: loved it. Coupon (two-fers) got us in . . .Howard our waiter did a great job . ..knowledgeable and friendly. Small place, with a dark simple contemporary interior--cutting edge design. Happy hour has very good prices, and the food was well prepared, pleaseant to the eye, nice portions. My wife and I are in our early 60's and have been back twice already.

My friend came here because we saw the advertisement in Downtown Magazine. We were pleased the whole time! Our waitress was on the spot all night, and completely accomodating. I got the yellow curry (which was fantastic), and my friend got the chicken pad thai with extra tofu. When she received her dish, it did not have extra tofu. Ten bites in, the waitress came over, realized there wasn't enough tofu in her dish, and immediately took it back to the kitchen to fetch a new dish. She brought a completely new dish out, fresh and hot, AND gave her the old dish to go. What a bonus! Our sampler appetizer was also a lovely blend of flavors. I would highly recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE! And who can fight with low prices? Noone, that's who.

This place is ok in a pinch, but it is really unlikely that I will go back. We went in for lunch, a party of four. The hostess wasn't at the stand and we waited a few minutes to sit. Basically, the service was lackluster. The waitress seemed bored and the hostess was chewing gum and didn't smile once. I had the red curry, which I ordered hot and didn't even give me a tingle. My father ordered the fried rice medium and it was hotter than my curry. I asked the waitress if the tofu was steamed or fried. She told me it was steamed then pan fried, but it was deep fried. Also, my grandmother was asked if she wanted white or brown rice, and didn't get any rice at all. The flavor of the food was good, but the service was inattentive. I've worked in restaurants for years and am uncomfortable sending things back to the kitchen. I don't recommend it.

My gold standard is green curry. If they can get that right, they deserve a return trips for more of the same. The outside of the restaurant is deceiving. It's a narrow store front, but it is deeply packed with tables and its own bar. It's a darn shame that the tables weren't bustling and all the booths not filled because the food is worth it. Price wise, you can't beat $7 for a full lunch spread. I received a cup of soup, salad, egg roll, green curry with tofu, and a large helping of rice. It was a full lunch with leftover curry. The green curry isn't as green as I'd like it to be, but the flavor was there. I asked for "hot" which was the perfect temperature for me. The heat level didn't linger and the extra chile seeds in the curry added flavor and heat. The green beans in the curry were fresh, not frozen, which was a surprise. They had a nice solid crunch to them and not a mushy feel to them. Presentation of the food is one aspect this place shines on. Tofu in its natural form is a large wide block of congealed soy curd. You cannot make it more plain and unappealing. The tofu is fried, but it's what happened to it before it hit the fryer that's very interesting. The chefs used a special slicing utensil to shape the tofu into bite-size, triangular pieces with serrated edges. Then the tofu is fried and mixed with the curry was delicious. That's the greatest strength of tofu: it absorbs the flavor of whatever sauce its wading in. Service was excellent, which I'll put some credit due to the low amount of diners there. My waitress checked in on me, refilled my water, and made sure I was tended to well. This place deserves more visits at lunch time. I hope to you there in the future.

I went to Mint yesterday during lunch & ordered a to go order of the eggplant dish with chicken (stir fried with garlic, bell peppers, basil & onions). It was okay. I expected it to have much more eggplant in it, but instead it was mostly bell peppers & onion. It was good though. The other gripe I have is that I LOVE spicy food & thai food that isn't spicy isn't real thai food...in my opinion. Even when I spent a month in Thailand in the sweltering summer heat, I wanted that spice. So I asked the waitress who took my order if I order a spice level of 10 if they mean it. She assured me they did and convinced me to go with a level of 8 instead. It wasn't spicy at all! I should've went with the 10! I do like that you have an option of brown rice instead of white. I also ordered a hot green tea to go which was nothing but hot water & a teabag. I think that a place like this should offer loose leaf tea! This place is new with nice modern decor. Service was also fast & friendly. Prices are also reasonable especially for being in the gaslamp area. Another plus is you can park in the Horton Plaza parking complex, validate your ticket & get 3 free hours of parking since Mint is just adjacent to Horton Plaza. They also offer free delivery, just not sure to what areas. I would come back & give them another try. I'm just happy that they have a choice of Thai food in the gaslamp area.

The food is delicious, however only go there if you have 1 1/2-2 hsr to spare. We went for restaurant week last night, and seriously we waited forever for our food. They forgot about our dessert until I mentioned to them. It seemed they only had 2 waitresses and 1 waiter working in a busy night, Several people were leaving and complaining about the wait.. This place would actually be really good if it wasn't for their service. I don't know if I would come back even though I really enjoy the food.

Pretty darn good food for less than a Thai meal in Tucson, Arizona - seriously? That's awesome. The spices were great. Two lunches totaled to be $15. The spices are accurate - the drunken noodles tasted like flat rice noodles with the two spices (the ground spice and the chili paste that usually come as a side dish). Nothing special. The vegetable in the dish was green pepper. The green curry was good. It was thick and had great flavor. I would definitely come here for lunch again.

BEWARE! DELIVERY and CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE ATROCIOUS! Usually Great Food -- Horrible Customer Service and Delivery. We have had Mint Downtown Thai delivered to us many times -- at least once per month. The delivery service is often disappointing -- usually due to the length of time. The experience on 24-JAN-2012 has turned us off as customers. First of all, it took 1 hr 15 mins to get the order after being quoted "45-60 minutes". Typical lag in the delivery, so not immediately a problem. However, the delivery driver gave us only part of our order and part of someone else's order. When we called the restaurant, they initially only offered to re-make the missing entrees and have those delivered -- BUT, it would be another HOUR. There were 3 of us eating that night, and we were not going to let half our order get cold while waiting for the rest. We asked for a refund and we'd try again another time, but they would not do it. They said the manager/owner would call me to discuss, but after at least 30 minutes with no word, I called back. They still refused to make good on the order, and I pushed to speak to the manager/owner again -- still, no one called. Eventually, they agreed to remake the entire order and deliver it again. They demanded that we returned everything from the mis-delivered order, including the drinks. Fair enough since they were going to replace everything. Finally, the appropriate response. HOWEVER, when the new order came (now it is over 3 hours from our original order time), it was still missing a couple of items. We refused the order and still returned the wrong order from 2 hours before. We had nothing and they STILL CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD! Oh, and the manager/owner has still never called me. The audacity of them to mess up our $60 order TWICE, delay our dinner over 3 hours, and still charge us! Plus, the delivery driver got a nice tip! This VERY POOR customer service has soured us from ordering from Mint Thai ever again. In the past, their food has been delicious, but the delivery service they use has ruined it. This regular customer is no longer a customer (unless the manager/owner decides to finally call and make things right).

The food here is excellent, the prices are right, and the service is friendly. A meal here is easily enough for two, under $15 and you can opt for brown rice. I'll admit, I've certainly had better thai, but I've also paid a lot more. So for the price level, I think this place is a good deal.

The Shrimp Drunken Noodles with Medium heat is delicious. Only lame part about the meal is the shrimp still has the shell at the bottom. Service is never spectacular here and is usually on the slow side. Price is moderate, most of the plates run about $9-$15. Mint Downtown isn't the best Thai in the world but from what I've tried on their menu it's been good quality. Parking is easy too since you're able to use the structure for Horton Plaza.

When the menu says that the crispy duck is drizzled with curry sauce that shouldn't mean that there is as much sauce as there is duck. Way too much sauce.

Excellent food... Nice ambience... Great for big parties, small groups, or a couple on a romantic dinner. Try their Thai orange chicken... It's better than the orange chicken served at Chinese restaurants. I also recommend the Drunken Noodles & Satay Chicken. I'm sure the rest of the food is just as great, I just tend to stick to my favorites. The folks who own this place also own Thai Time II over at the Sports Arena area, which is ALSO fantastic so I'm not surprised that this place has become a new favorite of mine. Also -they make the best Thai Iced Teas! I recommend parking at Horton Plaza shopping mall, and just get your parking validated at one of the "free" machines...I believe you get 3 Free Hours. =D ENJOY!!!!

Been there 3 times now and I would recommend it for some inexpensive Thai food. I would avoid the fried egg role things. I have had both the Pad Thai and also the Fried Rice, both of which I would recommend, although the Pad Thai is pretty different. The place is clean, big, and usually not too full - as someone else said it is on 4th street in the Horton Plaza building next to a 3rd rate Hotel and Laundromat. I would certainly consider this a local find and would recommend.

This place had good food, however it took us over and hour to get it!!! We were in the restaurant for 2.5 hrs total. It was fine, because I don't mind waiting but it seemed that everyone ignored us even our own waitress. I thought that was impossible because our table was dead center in the walkway. The next bad thing was that they added 20% to our bill b/c it was restaurant week!!! All in all it was good, but I wouldn't go back merely because I felt used.

Went here for a small pre party dinner. The food and decor are excellent, I had the spicy basil beef which was fresh and fragerant. One of the most unusual restrooms too, you'll see when you go. We went earlier in the evening, the service was good despite hearing negative things about it being restaurant week. Won't give it 5, it's a bit overpriced.

I will definitely be coming back here again..and again, after trying it out for the first time last night! After weeks of craving pad thai I embraced the chance of spending a wonderful Friday evening out with my man at a new eatery. We got lucky at finding street parking, but you could even park at the mall, get validated, and just walk on over. We got there a little past 7, darn - we just missed the happy hour, good amount of people I suppose, but more so when we left. Here it goes: servers were attentive, the wait after placing your order is fair compared to most, the ambiance was nice - I liked the music they were playing. It gets you in the mood for dancing later on for being in downtown, but that's me. I ordered the pad thai and my man ordered the red curry, both vegetarian, $9. Both were de-li-cious! Mmm! Take this from someone that can eat pad thai, like, erday! Yes, they give enough of the pad thai to share between 2 people. The red curry comes with a side of either brown or white rice. The bf ordered the beer and sake combo ($9.50), and the server brought us cups to share. What else can I say other than I was satisfied? Great company, great good!

Don't use the delivery service!!!!!! We waited over 2 hours for our food (and I called 3 times just to get excuses) and when it finally got here it wasn't hot. In addition, the flavor was poor anyway! I was not amused or impressed:(

Really poor value. Tiny dinner portions that are smaller than a lunch portion there I believe, and costs a lot more. I also felt it was pretty bland tasting. I had the house fried rice, and the chicken was really dry and tough. My business partner had the drunken noodles, and we both left hungry. This place was pretty empty, while the other restaurants nearby (Sammy's, Hard Rock, a sushi place) were quite busy. The interior is nice here, but I won't be coming back.

what is up with the dance music playing rather loudly at this place. Don't go here for the ambience. The food was pretty good for the price (I went for lunch). The fresh spring rolls were really good and I'd pass on the fried spring rolls another time.

I can't give this place too low of stars because the food was delicious and wasn't too pricey for being downtown, but man the service is another thing!!! I get that it was restaurant week, but we decided not to order from that preset menu because we didn't want dessert and we didn't exactly go for dinner. Also, we chose this restaurant because of the happy hour, but guess what?! They decided to forget to inform their patrons that during restaurant week only drinks would be going for happy hour and not the appetizers!!! What the?!@! I mean seriously? And when we asked about it after we got our check they explained that fact afterwards. Funny thing was the host did not even know and got our server so basically they were all mixed up. Oh and to top it off, they actually had their happy hour sign outside, but then probably after our questioning and wondering, we walked out and it was pulled. WOW!! I'm pretty sure we won't be back here again because that is just terrible!! Also, there are just as good, if not better Thai places so boo to this place. That is just bad customer service!!! Forgot to mention another thing to add to the bad customer service, supposedly drinks were still going for happy hour prices, but she didn't even charge us correctly for that, it was full price and she did refund us the 2 dollars in cash, but she did not seem very pleasant about having to do that either.

0 stars, if possible. Should have taken the advice of yelpers. Placed a to-go order, and was quoted 25 mins for the food. Arrived at the restaurant in 20 mins, and was told they had not started making my food. I was thinking, "OK, that's fine. How long could it possibly take to make 2 pad thai's"; BOY! was i wrong. I waited an additional 35 mins for my 2 pad thai's. An hour to make 2 pad thai's?! Rediculous! Never again, Mint. You lost my business.

was here in happy hour. located in the middle of downtown, I eat a lot of thai food...this place is ok. not less, not more. the appetizers are half price, we had 3 of those, they were oily and it took for ever for them to come. we had shrimp in yellow curry with white rise, was just ok. service is ok, place looks ok...everything ok, not more that that...which means I won't come back, but can not say it was bad.

  • Sparrow T.

Thai Phooey! Food was bland, service was bland, decor was bland. I don't get it, most of the reviews are stellar for this place, did I not eat at the same place?? I mean with hundreds of long lived excellent Thai restaurants in San Diego how does this place actually intend to survive? If you are the kind of person that goes into a Thai restaurant & orders pad thai noodles - well damn, then you gotta break out of the box here. You can't give a place a 5 star rating because you got some mediocre noodles and call that Thai food! What the hell?! That's like ordering a California roll at a sushi place and saying you had good sushi. Do you order Vanilla at Baskin Robins too? Pad thai & spring rolls are a given, People. If they don't at least get that right, then they're sunk! The Panang Curry was bland like milk and lacked that familiar nutty flavor. I had to request extra chili paste, which I ended up dousing into every dish we ordered. Most of the meats were over cooked and rubbery. The hot basil, which is a usual favorite was disappointing & tasted more like a stir fry from some indoor mall food court. And what's the idea of serving the dishes entree style with a ice cream scoop of rice on each dish? Are we not allowed to share our meal together? Thai food is meant to be eaten family style along with that communal self refilling rice bowl. I'm sorry, rule of thumb- if you don't see any Thai people working in a Thai Restaurant then it probably ain't no good Thai food! Eesh.. About the only interesting thing about this place is that wacky bathroom set up. The sinks are on the outside of the bathrooms so you can converse with the people waiting to get on the inside. While you are washing your hands, you can conveniently discuss how not so great the food is... Here's a suggestion for those of you who gave this place a 5 star rating, try one of these places: Amarin Thai, Antique Thai, Celadon, Rama, Bayook, Taste of Thai, Thai Time II, Saffron (just a sampling of the good ones) and after the comparison, let me know if you would like to change your rating. And for pity's sake DON'T order pad thai noodles!

I have been here 3 times and enjoy it. The service is good. The food and bottles of wine are inexpensive given the porpotion and presentation. Finally, everything I have ordered has been average or better Thai food, try the Ka Pow!

The food looked better than it tasted. Example, they have this shrimp appetizer that's wrapped in fried noodle. It looks cool but when you bite into it the noodles fly all over the place and the shrimp well that was underwhelming. For the main I had some kind of a peanut butter topped steak. The steak was hard and unevenly cooked. The peanut butter was not a good compliment. It might have been better w/ a fattier or softer kind of meat so that the flavor would be more cohesive. I liked the pictures that are hanging all over the place and their bathrooms were very unique looking.

Little thai food gem in gaslamp! The menu is priced well, considering it's location. Service is great! We ordered fresh spring rolls, pad se ewe, and curry fried rice. Everything was fresh and light. Their coconut juice is delcious - it came with thick slices of coconut meat! I was reminded of the frozen coconut juice that I used to get from the market as a kid :)

We recently saw that this new thai place opened up on 4th and gave it a try. Our waiter was really attentive throughout the meal. I got the drunken noodles and it was the close as I can find to the local place I have been going to in DC (i moved to San Diego a few months ago). The crunchy tofu and the fresh spring rolls were awesome. I would highly recommend this restaurant!!! Totally vegetarian friendly too! One more thing...I forgot my camera there and about 5 min later (we were a few blocks away) - he somehow managed to find us (through the crowds in Gaslamp) and returned my camera!!! Great service!!!

We placed our first lunch order today and Mint Thai promised that the delivery would arrive in 45mins to an hour. 1. Not only did the delivery arrive within 45mins, 2. Order taker and delivery service were friendly, 3. Order was accurate, 4. still hot, 5. delicious, 6. and the earth friendly containers were an added bonus. 7. Most places include soup when the lunch special is ordered "for here" and we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't excluded from our "To Go" order. We are ordering again soon and spreading the word.

After tragic Thai food experiences in SD i am so glad to have found Mint. Food was fresh, made to order and to our liking. The crying tiger steak is cooked to perfection and the Tom Ka Gai is superb. Thank u Mint. Also our server Howard....man what a voice. Thanks for the great service and reasonable prices.

I'd left my glasses at Fred's (started the eve with a marg). Date was going to go over the menu, but I'd'a felt older than I already am! Told Ashely what I liked and she was SO HELPFUL and patient. Settled on green curry (date had Thai grilled chicken and really liked it). Needed it mild. It was still to spicy for me. Ashley suggested and took it back to tone it down. SO NICE and then YUM!!! Back bathroom situation is, well, unusual!!! Do love the sinks. Not sure about the stadium seating???

I am waffling between 4 and 3 stars only because the spicing we got was wildly inconsistent, so I'm settling on 3. The calamari and crispy tofu appetizers were fine, but our Tom Kha soup was completely devoid of spicing, which my partner was OK with but which really detracted from it for me. We had Drunken Noodles and the powdered hot pepper was not blended well and so one of us basically got choked up on a clump of it. The server and service was friendly, so I guess I'd go back but I would be really careful to specify exactly how much spicing I would like in any dish. (They run a scale of 1 to 10.)

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Called this place to order lunch for an office. They forgot to deliver the drinks!!! The delivery guy said to call them back because no one packed it for him. So I call back and what sounds to me like a 12 year old picks up- I explain to her that the drinks were not sent, she places me on hold for 5 minutes--comes back on the phone and apologizes, by this time I said screw it, cancel the drinks and refund my money back on the credit card, she places me on hold once again. Comes back a second time and says can you give me the credit card you used, had to give her that information all over again and then she said she would talk to the manager about it. I said let me speak to him myself because I want a new copy of the receipt (since it is a business meal - I have to have accurate copies of receipts for my boss to approve) - once again placed on hold, this time for almost 7 mins so another person picks up, and I have to explain to this new girl the entire situation and at this point I am irate. She placed me on hold and I hung up and called right back. I asked this second woman to please pass the phone to the manager ASAP because I am tired of holding. She walks over to the manager and I can hear him talking in the background "what does she want? And when he answered the phone, he didnt even have the courtesy to apologize for not sending the drinks - he had an attitude, as if I owed him something for asking for my proper receipt. As for the actual food, it was alright---I would go to RAMA next time.

The wife and I ate here for the first time tonight. The restaurant overall is about 3.5. We started off with the sampler appetizer, which was very good, other than the cream cheese won ton. We were a bit disappointed with the papaya salad, but the tom yum and drunken noodles made up for it. I could see this place becoming a bit more popualr, especially after they get their liquor license. Will most likely be coming back here to eat again.

Was visiting from out of town and the menu looked good so figured why not try it out. Food was amazing, just the right flavor and spice. I had the panang curry and my co-dinner had the eggplant stir fry. Both had very diverse flavors and priced very reasonably. Only negative is since it literally opened a week ago they don't have their bar up and running but their plans sound great for selection of beer! Worth checking out!

GREAT Place! I enjoyed the food a lot!! It was not expensive for the downtown! I am surprised some people gave them such a low rating! I will come back to try more dishes!

Food is just okay but the prices are very reasonable (compared to most places downtown) and THEY DELIVER! Can't beat that. I always order their yellow curry - it's my favorite dish!

I went bc I saw good reviews on this site. I had quite the opposite experience. Place was empty but the ambiance wasn't bad. They're new and decided to open up with out a liquor licence. So, no drinks for you, but the Thai tea was delicious. When it came to the food, it was pretty good, but I've certainly had better. They forgot to give us brown rice instead of white and my friend's entree was missing some of the veggies listed on the menu. We got a couple apps to start, but the entrees came out immediately after, which is annoying. Service was mediocre until the end of the meal when our server was MIA for 20 minutes. I doubt ill go back bc there's such better Thai food around with better service. If you do go, I'd wait a while until they get the bugs worked out, learn how to cook their own food, and get a liquor licence.

Great thai food. We discovered this place one Friday night while strolling through the gaslamp district. By far the best Thai we've had. The Panang curry was off the charts, as were the drunken noodles. Bottles of wine were extremely cheap which was nice. Overall, the prices were extremely reasonable and we were satisfied with our experience. The only flaw I found at Mint was during a recent takeout order. We asked for pineapple, with extra pineapple, and they completely left us hanging. Our dish had a few small pieces of pineapple in it which was disappointing, Buy a few fresh pineapples at Costco and put some nice chunks in there. Otherwise, I cant wait to return

OK, so you know how most cheapish Thai places are all just about the same? Good food, but indistinguishable from the 10 other similar Thai restaurants in downtown. This place is exactly that PLUS about 20% better. Their pad thai and drunken noodles are just a little better and a little bigger portions than everyone else. Which is really freaking nice because now when I want cheap Thai food I don't have to decide between all the other places that are just about the same. Way to invent the better mouse trap Mint. No don't go going out of business or anything. And please expand to the Mira Mesa area where I work so I can get in on the lunch menu
